Yea, it's a tournament, people get injured. The only thing that was obvious is that Saki was the faster fighter.

You want me to name the top fighters Aerts has beat in the last 5 years?

Le Banner
Schilt x 3
Remy

His only losses coming from
Overeem x 2
Schilt x 2
Badr
Hoost
Maeda

So...why did he need to retire 5 years ago? He can still beat top 5 comp and only losses to top 5 comp, aside from Maeda.

He is still one of the top fighters in K1...hence him being in the final.

Lol, 50 pounds lighter and injured, Saki still managed to drop Overeem with a spinning hook kick.

Heh, it's funny that you mention LeBanner, because he's in the same boat as Aerts. He hasn't been a legitimate contender in years, and should probably retire.

In any case, you can continue to be a wikipedia whore all you want. It doesn't change the fact that Aerts is far past his prime. We're talking about a guy who's been fighting professionally for 20+ years. Aerts can't take a stiff punch anymore, and he's slowed down considerably. Don't really see how that much is arguable.

Uh, a spinning heel kick will drop most people...it's not like Overeem was even hurt since he blocked it and jumped right back up. If Saki has a problem with fighting someone while hurt maybe he shouldn't be in k1, if he has a problem fighting someone 50lbs heavier maybe he shouldn't be fighting at HW...but he doesn't, only Overeem haters do. Deal with it.

Lol, yea, me actually knowing what I'm talking about means I'm a wikipedia whore, that's a good one. You can continue to not know what you're talking about. He's slowed down yet he can still beat top 5 comp and only loses to top 5 comp, primarily...you saying he should have retired 5 years ago is ridiculous, sorry bud.

It's not like Saki has much of a choice. It's either the heavyweight division, or the MAX division, where the weight limit is 155 pounds. Only Overeem dick riders would be proud of a victory over a much smaller, injured fighter. It's the equivalent of Shogun fans bragging that he beat a one-armed Frankie Edgar. Only difference being I doubt Frankie would drop Shogun. haermm

Glad to see you admit you're a wikipedia whore. You're arguing from a record perspective while I'm arguing from a performance perspective. It's a dead give-away that you don't actually watch K-1, but rather, go to the fighters' wikipedia pages to look up information and then pretend that you do watch. Again, I go back to the Foreman analogy. He was still beating top 10 guys in the late 80's into the early 90's. That being the case, he still wasn't nearly the same fighter that was destroying Joe Frazier and Ken Norton back in the 70's. It's the same with Aerts. So, is Aerts far past his prime as a fighter? The answer to that question is unequivocally, yes.

Though I realize this is being totally lost on you considering you've never actually seen Peter Aerts fight in his prime. 🙁

Not even gonna read your post, probably still bitching over Overeem winning.

Deal with it.

Jesus Christ!

Epic card to finish off WEC

Thats a Van Damme move used in a real fight.

Damn, I have to watch it when I get home.

I'm fine with him winning.

I just find it funny how only in the mind of an Overeem dick rider would Peter Aerts not be considered out of his prime.

When did I say he wasn't?

I disagreed with your writing him off as being unable to compete with top comp and needing to retire 5 years ago, when anyone that knows anything about k1 would see he can still compete with the best.

Well ,in any case, I'm glad you learned to deal with it.

Chill out, talk about THE KICK

Fair enough.

He needs to retire imo because he has nothing left to prove, he's slowed down considerably, both in movement speed and reflexes, and each subsequent stiff punch he takes is becoming more and more devastating to him. Seriously though, he hasn't won the Grand Prix in 12 years, and getting to the finals isn't a feat he's going to be able to replicate. I don't want to see him hold on for too long and get seriously hurt.

One of, if not, the best thing I've ever seen in a fight.

It's nice to see a move like that in a sport where Western boxing and wrestling are more popular.

Boxing isn't all that popular, seems like more fighters go towards MT, then maybe later try to train some boxing.

I've always preferred Muay Lao or Muay Boran over Muay Thai. MT just has the advantage of being wide-spread and popular.

Any predictions for tonight? I think Gray will whoop Edgar to be the new champ.

edit*

My main-card predictions:
Kim beats Diaz by decision
Gomi knocks out Guida
Stan knocks out Leben
Maynard knocks out Edgar and becomes the new champ

It's settled in the cage, but I'm guessin' that Maynard/Edgar turns out much like their 1st fight... Maynard by decision. Going with Leben by TKO.
I'd like to see Gomi by KO, but i'm sure Clay will smother him for 15mins.

I laughed.

Yeah....lol

Interesting... I was thinking halfway through the 5th round that this fight could possibly be a draw.

Great fight.

Scoring it would be hard.

I think Diaz got screwed; the judges gave it to the undefeated guy. And why unanimous? At the very least it should have been split.

Why? It nearly happened not even a minute into the fight. And I have a feeling that if it was a non-title fight, the ref would have stopped it. But the refs tend to grant a little leniency to defending champs.

It may have officially been a draw, but from Round 2 onward, Edgar won.
