I actually dont know alot of franchising players.

Yea the way it works is you take the top 5 highest paid players at that position from the previous season and you average their salaries. The player getting the tag gets a 1 year contract at that amount.

The player is still free to negotiate with other teams but if offered a deal the team that used the Franchise Tag can still match that offer or they can let them go and the team that signs them must give them two 1st round picks.

I would think that's the reason why they did that. The Patriots have the money to pay Cassell for one year if it gives them 2 first rounders and some backup help in case Brady can't do that.

Give him a three year deal and you won't get nearly enough you would if you franchised him.

Well they wont get the 2 first round picks no teams gonna give that up (they would have to offer him a contract BIGGER than 14 mill a year and have the pats decline and be willing to part with that cash and the picks). They will either keep him and use him if brady is still hurt, or if brady is ok they will trade him but they arnt guaranteed the two 1st rounders in a trade. But it still should work out ok for them.

What I was saying was when Brady first got hurt and they decided not to bring anyone new in and make Cassell the guy they could have offered him a 3 year 8 million or even less maybe and he would have taken it easy. Ah well it will prolly still work out for them.

Bad ass punter ftw!

Yeah, Sproles was great but damn, I've never seen a punter contribute so much in a win as Scifres did Saturday night. 6 Indy drives started inside the 20, with two at the 3 and 1. That 60-something yard punt was indeed a monster, as described by Al Michaels. THAT's what you have to do to get your name noticed if you're a punter.

Take note, the teams that nailed more punts inside the 20 were 4-0 this weekend. With Sepulveda not playing this year, Pittsburgh has a horrible punting situation, so that could be a field-position nightmare especially going up against Scifres. However, they are a surprising #1 in kickoff coverage...which has nothing to do with punting. 😄

If San Diego get to the Superbowl, I'm quitting football.

I'd like to extend a humble congrats to two people:

1) James Harrison for winning DPOY
2) The voters who recognized that not only did he produce big plays every game, Harrison single-handedly bailed the Steelers out of two critical games (Baltimore & San Diego) when trust me, all was lost. Without his clutch plays in those two games, the Steelers lose those games and sit at home during the playoffs.

Now for a Harrison action shot, and just to show my appreciation I included the 3rd-place vote getter in the picture: 😉

I still think Ware should of gotten it.

The votes here made way more sense than the MVP votes

I did some backtracking. Damn, even though my Merriman pick didn't work out, I didn't do that bad with my picks, especially the Chad Johnson one:

Rookie of Year -
Chris Johnson
Offensive Player of Year -
Donovan McNabb
Defensive Player of Year -
Shawne Merriman
Leading Rusher -
Adrian Peterson
Idiot of the Year -
Chad "I can beat Michael Phelps" Johnson

Yep, you did the best out of me and Forum.

I was really bad this year.

From a Charger fan; Why?

They were 1 dropped onside kick from being an losing team.

They shouldn't even be in the playoffs, let alone have home field advantage.

Patriots franchise Cassel. He'll be making 14 million next year. Just 1 million less than Brady. How crazy is that? USC QB's taking over, I love it!

That's just insurance...we still don't know if Brady will return for next season. I think is a good call by the Pats.

Yea I can understand that winning your division means you get in. But the seeding should be done by record division winners should not get special treatment in seeding. Chargers were the worst team (of the AFC playoff teams) and their seed should have reflected that.

Idiot of the year award goes to Plaxico Burress. 😆

Yeah, I could go along with that. I still get 1/4th of a point for Chad Johnson in any given year, however.

Yea you do win that one. Allthough Jerry Jones should also be a top nominee as well as McNabb for the OT thing.

I forgot to post this back in November, but my question for McNabb would be, "If you didn't know there was such thing as a tie in the NFL, why did you throw a Hail Mary on the last play of OT? Did you think the period between the 1st and 2nd OT periods was halftime and they kicked off again after switching sides?"

Turned out that OT was very important.

Well, he said he knew once that play was called that it was going to end a tie. So the whole time before that, he never knew.

And it's funny to watch the local sports channels around here praise the Eagles defense like they are Gods because they shut down Tavaris Jackson. 😆 They don't understand that it was not the defense, but it was that Tavaris Jackson is a terrible excuse for a QB.

Anyway, I can't wait until Eagles-Giants.
