In slants, most tackles are the weak grab ones where the defensive player sees it and reacts but its too quick to actually hit him.
And like I said, this simply isn't true. You don't need much momentum to light someone up in football. Have you ever seen a receiver get rocked on slant by a middle linebacker who just had to basically take 1 step and lean into the player with his shoulder? I don't know what game you guys have been watching, but plenty of big hits come from short passes, especially when it's over the middle.
You will see more big hits from linebackers on receivers than you will see from safeties. That's common knowledge.
exactly. it is unlikely a LB is going to be able to light someone up on a pass that short
This is just hilarious. PLEASE tell me you are joking.
And I love how we mention 4 yard pass not really being over the middle
First of all, no one mentioned "4 yard pass not really being over the middle", because I'm speaking specifically about 4-8 yard passes that ARE over the middle. Not 20 yard slant routes where the safety will actually come into play.
I have to remember I am arguing with two people who think linebackers don't make big hits on receivers on short passes. Lets not even mention the fact that many receivers do in fact get lit up in the exact spot of the field I am talking about, but what about receivers who already have made the catch and are running over the middle?
