The obvious answer is that they're all 'heirs' (there's probably a better word than that, meh) to the four big superheroes in the DC universe... but it must be something bigger than that.

There's never been any proof it killed him, they assumed it. Like you said it seems unlikely that it could do the job. Besides as in the past many times, there's probably multiple Extants running around. The guy likes to make copys of himself remember?

I still have a feeling it has to do with Supernova/Booster/Skeets or even Rip Hunter himself....well...no, he blamed it all on Booster, didn't he? Christ, this is annoying...

No he blamed it on Skeets, as looking closer the arrows were pointing to him.
