Matial arts depend on what you want, if you want to survive in a dangerous area by using such learned techniques then forget it.

You need an agressive mind, the ability to notice a dangerous situation and act accordingly, experience, martial arts will probably give 25 % towards this.

Ive known people with blakc belts and years of experinece in martial arts, but when cornered in a pub and suddenly head butted, wellied arround the head with a pool que, or clobbered by a beer glass they went down and did´t know what to do.

Bicnarok, most "martial artists" don't actually train to fight. They just do moves on the air and never practice with any real contact. They usually point spar( which is NOT fighting). This is very common in Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, and Karate schools, which is why those styles really get little respect.

REAL martial artists like Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko Filipovic, or Rickson Gracie would clean house in a bar brawl. Heck, ANY decent Thai boxer, boxer, wrestler, grappler, or kickboxer would clean house in a bar brawl. There was actually a UFC fighter who got into a fight at a bar against several guys with knives recently. The mixed martial artist was the only unarmed person who made it out alive.

quite right, and like bicnaroc said it depends what you want.
I dont train to fight I train because I enjoy it, it keeps me fit and it's a relatively safe environment to play with weapons... 😖hifty:
I train 2.5 hours once a week in a style based on japanese jujitsu and have absolutely no doubts that come to a real fight my learned techniques will probably go out of the window and I'd end up brawling like anyone else.

Something that a lot of people dont realise is that to train to fight requires a lot of dedication and hardwork, training all day, everyday. One night a week at a club wont cut it in a real situation!

well it depends. if you manage to keep your calm it's easier to use trained techniques. and sometimes it's quite efficient.

yup but that usually doesn't happen....

bruce lee is the king of course. i dont know why some people say chuck norris is cause hes gotten his ass whipped by lee afew times.

Somebody tlk to me about karate or martial arts.

well iv'e been hear like 8 months and i need some martial arts stimuli.
plz help, im dying to chat to somebody besides the guys and girls at my GoJu-Ryu-karate-Do, club.
so help.

my hero!

in goju ryu we train to fight, you learn defence against street weapons such as bats, knives, chains, and other more precise things (chairs, bottles).
also we learn practical grips and throws, scenarios and just plain 3 on one fighting.
I have no doubt that with the amount of traing+ practise i have done would pay off in a real situation.

hah!...i'll gather the chaps and we'll jump you. 😛

Bruce Lee trained Chuck which is why some people think he is good. I dont think he is good. I have trained in GOJU RYU (HARD SOFT STYLE) I reached brown belt before it got a little too expensive.

Bruce Lee did not train Chuck Norris.
