X-2 is a travesty to the FF series.
Not every FF has to be male hero in shining armor going out to save damsel in distress/epic showdown between protogonist and big scary baddy/insert random epic or romantic theme here with epic music and seriousness all around...if you get the drift. X-2 although it doesn't seem similar to the other fantasies, is a different take and something new, an innovative concept to the series. 3 girls kicking ass like Charlie's Angel's, that's awesome. I already have 10 straight Chronicles of Narnias so this seemed like a different idea at the time. I'm not saying the story didn't have random bits and boring side missions, but what other flaws did it have? Dress Spheres? More bodily skin showing? Paine seeming like a lesbian (haermm)? It's pretty much a girl's game, or moslty suited to that. It makes sense, YRP would have those.

Besides, being a girl, you should at least like the game. Screams "independant women". 313

Edit: I mean, I know X-2's theme was romantic, but to the point you'll wipe out the world with a beam coming out of some machines mouth...damn that's awesome. It's also an organ - 2x awesome!

Besides, now we know who the image of Tidus was based off of.

So, X-2 was a bit of brave dude saving the girl, but the main theme was jolly. I like that.

X-2 was Yuna's story. Dont phluckz with it. 313

The problem with X-2 is that the story didn't actually get started until about 10 hours in.

The Baldur's Gate games didn't really have anything at all going for them in the storyline department so I'm not really sure what you're getting at here. Simplistic, generic, and by most standards painfully dull.

Hahaha! Brainless...

The Final Fantasy series and JRPG's in general are much better and more narrative than the disgrace that is WRPG's that are mass effect, baldurs gate and fall out 3.

These WRPG games are so emotionless and has absolutely terrible plotlines and piss poor voice acting.

That being said, FFXIII feels more like a corny WRPG than an amazing JRPG along with the fact that SE whored themselves to the sex box and anybody dumb enough to purchase FFXIII for it.

I've never liked the Baldur's Gate series, either. When it comes down to it, I simply do not like WRPGs. I do not think that more traditional RP elements translate well into video games, and while I normally have no problem with typical Western fantasy cliches and tropes, I tend to think they don't work as well in video games. It's just not a style of video game I've ever enjoyed, and eve the WRPGs I have liked (Diablo, Dragon Age, ME2), it's sure as hell not the plot I enjoy about it, and I certainly don't like them as much as I have most FF games.

And as far as the "open world" vs. "linear" argument goes, open-world games have never been able to hold my interest very long. There has to be at least some linearity involved, stuff to keep you going in the plot, to keep me playing.

FFX-2...don't get me started. Don't get me wrong, I liked the game a lot the first time I played it. Subsequent playthroughs, though, were like "...what the hell is this?" and I'm now shocked that I ever liked it. The fact that you can get through the game without ever really interacting with the plot outside of cutscenes is the biggest offender. There is nothing romantic about the Lenne/Shuyin subplot - it's more of a "I'm a creepy stalker boyfriend" thing. The dresspheres were a neat way of bringing back the class system but they were poorly balanced and there was little point to ever using most of them. Ush can comment more on how broken the actual game mechanics were. And let's not forget the fact that it stomped all over the ending of FFX, which was awesome if not a typical "everyone lives happily ever after" ending (guess what - not all endings HAVE to be perfectly happy and cheery).

Anyway.

About Vanille - yes, she is 19. As to why Lightning and Snow always call her a kid...I'm going with the fact that she seems very young and immature. But she is indeed 19 years old. I would strongly suggest not looking her up in the Final Fantasy wiki, though, as there's some extremely huge spoilers on her page.

I'm on the 3rd disc. I'm officially hooked. I'm thinking of getting meself a frocobo sig!

Not like you can answer but...what the **** does the xbox release have to do with any of the problems the game has?

Nothing whatsoever. I mean, the game was nearly complete when that decision was even made.

LOL Western vs Eastern, Personally I like both but eastern games seemed to be losing their touch and try so hard to be like final fantasy(refers to phantesy star universe and yes I know the series its self came before final fantasy but look what they reduce it to). Yeah some WRPGs copy the Lord of the rings format but atleast they build something into it(like gameplay).

Then there is the inovations that the WRPGs bring such as fable bringing in a morphed morality system, and most common features a WRPG is the create your player thing. JRPG's are famous for their stories(often these days seem to be rusting or copying the same format again), But final fantasy remains the example of the rare good ones.

But basically Western ones are geared to for action oriented gameplay
while Eastern is geared for more traditional RPG gameplay

(stupid fifteen minute)

I wanted to add also, that X-2 is the only sequel I know of to an FF, that didn't need one for that matter. How serious should a person expect that to be? Now that Sin is dead, and the eternal calm came about...yes, Yuna can stop being an orthodox religious summoner, and start enjoying her life.

Cool story bro.

Now get yourself FFXIII. Love the better female cast and enjoy the battle mechanics.

PS- Lightning is among my top 3 FF heros and #1 heroine.

Dunno if its her design or her badass stunts or the kickass sword or the fact she is a woman who is normal.

Getting the game tomorrow. Am excited.

It's not a big deal, but I kinda miss the towns and it's civilians. Though they are a minor fault, I'm enjoying it quite abit. Can't wait to get any summons.

I very much doubt you ever seriously tried it.

Good for you, I really don't care what you doubt or not.

Awesome 😄

About an hour in. I dunno if it's just me or just this part of the game, but there seems to be a lot of battles so far. The system is cool, but right now it more or less plays itself, so the battles are rather boring.

The presentation is amazing. However I don't like how you're expected to halt the game and read the data log in order to understand what exactly is going on. There's very little explanation so far outside of that data log.

There are a ton of battles initially, yeah. It'll slow down a bit, as well as get much more complex.

And the datalog is neat, I think. At first it's mostly "here's all of the gameplay bits you need to know", but as you get further on it's mostly handy for in case you forgot what happened at a specific point, explaining the cutscenes in case you missed/skipped one, and looking up enemy information.

I like that there's a datalog, I think it's a great idea. But I don't like having to use it in order to understand what's going on. Like understanding terms that are essential to comprehending the immediate story, that should be explained organically within the plot progression, and so far some things aren't. It's not a huge deal, but I'd rather not have to more or less pause the game and halt everything to figure out what exactly a fal'cie or whatever is.
