Final Fantasy XIII

I'm now about 7 hours in and the game's definitely growing on me. I still worry about the lack of towns and still hold out hope that there might be one coming up soon (the town where Hope comes from, I'm headed there now).

The combat is as good as everyone's been saying. Hectic and strategic - It's fun and satisfying shifting jobs in the middle of battle. It makes the battles feel very fast paced.

And as far as the linearity goes, honestly aside from the lack of towns to explore it doesn't feel any more linear than FFX did.

One thing that is bothering me is that 7 hours in there still is not even a hint of a major villain. It's been said (mostly by me) that an FF game is only as good as it's villain, so not even introducing one yet is alarming.

I haven't played for more than 2 hours (was drunk and passed out 😬 ... so I replayed it again last night), but from what I hear, there's not a real villain in the sense that there is not a main Villain for the entire story 😐

On a side note, I wonder why did Squenix pre-rendered some of the cutscenes while other are played in real-time? (I don't mean the CGI cutscenes, but the so-called realtime scenes using in-game assets)
I hear the same thing has been done with God Of War III, but in the case of the 360 it suffers a bit because the pixelation is evident in the action heavy scenes, while other realtime cutscenes are played indeed in real time (the 360 lower resolution is only evident with any transparency and the characters hair)

It doesn't break the game, it's just that I'm a little nitpicky 😄

I've come across two cities now. And while they're not conventional FF towns, they certainly felt like towns and had people standing and walking around, sometimes in crowds.

Good. Good. Very glad to hear that. Because right now sadly it simply feels like a series of disparate level strung together with cinematics, rather than an actual world.

I'm 24 hours into the game, and this is just the middle point of the game... Not to mention I finally gain the freedom to do things and set up my party the way I want.

I really don't understand what the hell happened though - the difficulty change from Chapter 10 to Chapter 11 is INSANE. Every regular monster fight is a challenge now! They should have made it at least a little more gradual.

it only gets harder if it looks im possible run fast you can from them theres alot of monsters that can own you. some of them stronger then some of the bosses you fight and the large things in the cutscenes take you out by stomping there feet

I Like the one-shotting monsters.

Reminds me of the time I challenged Emerald Weapon while on the 2nd disc with a low level party and no prep what so ever.

Gran Pulse is quite big.

gran pulse is insane i been leveling up on those yellow flans for like the last 4 days

Really now? That bad? Surely you can do better than those. I've leveled up enough that I can tango with anything non-giant-sized and survive... well most of the time and if Im paying attention.

That is one of the things I like about the system. You actually need to pay attention in order to win.

Behemoth Kings rip me a new one though.

This is by far the most disappointing FF i have ever played.

Allow me to rant.

Quite honestly, being a fan of FF for a very long time, i had high
expectations for this game(Thats right i played
FFIV,FFVII,FFVIII,FFX,FFXI,FFXII and FFXIII) and i was let down with
FFXIII.

The previous FF's at the least had a direction the
story was heading, like stopping sin in FFX, preventing an all out war
in FFXII, stopping Sephiroth in FFVII whereas the story seems to be
heading nowhere at all in FFXIII(only thing is being branded a l'cie and
figure their focus, other than that the story doesn't really propel
forward.)

And then theres the lack of conventional towns, what
made me disappointed in this regard is that conventional towns in my
opinion with NPC interactions(which FFXIII lacks) makes the world feel
more alive and there is nothing much to do except run from point a to
point b in a linear fashion(FFX was linear but you know where you're
heading, you know what you're suppose to do).

The world doesn't
feel alive in FFXIII ,the mythology isn't fleshed out very well and
it felt like a series of disparate level strung
together with
cinematics, rather than an actual world.

There is also the lack
of a central villain which in my opinion, for a final fantasy game at
least is very important. In FFVII it was Sephiroth, in FFVIII it was
Edea at first till Ultimecia, in FFX it was Sin for the most part , in FFXI online it depends on which story arc you are trying to complete and in
FFXII it was Vayne Solidor.

Overall FFXIII lacks a proper
story direction, it lacks interaction with NPC's, it lacks an actual
atmosphere that makes the game feel alive and it felt like a grind fest
and combat after combat with cutscenes and cinematics slapped on for the
most part.

Not everything is negative as the music seems to be
pretty good while the battle system rocks.

Personally i felt X and XII were the best of the series and i expected XIII to surpass that, instead XIII in my opinion became one of the weaker games in the series.

Well anyway, prepare for a defragmentation/counter to that review that doesn't take up the width of the page for some reason, as I'm sure someone will disagree heavily to that.

So because people like this game i cannot have my personal opinion? You like the game good for you, i don't question your tastes but don't go around treating your opinion like universal fact.

Did you even read my criticisms?

I never said it was fact, I said people will disagree with you. Who do you think I am, Alpha Centauri?

Oh wait, you're new here.

So stop treating it like one. Of course people will disagree with me, but you're trying to tell me i can't voice my opinion at all.

Get a grip.

.....................wow...

No dude, what the hell are you smoking?

I just said many people will not agree with that. Again, nothing bad about it. I think Tekken 6 is great, but many people don't. You are assuming (rather moronically) that I'm saying you can't tell us your opinion...........and I never even implied this notion at all.

Learn to read, no offense intended.

In other words, sorry for seeming like I was saying "no, you're wrong. You can't tell us what you think".

What I was saying was a lot of people love this game, and someone will probably address that and disagree, which is obvious, so what I said was more likely unnecessary.

Yes, unnecessary. Its more likely that retarded final fantasy fanboys will disagree with me.

Like these bunch of idiots : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BluDcAA4U0

Just goes to show how retarded FFXIII fans are.

Oh hi, Ivalice/Nebaris.

Bye, Ivalice/Nebaris.

Carry on, people.
