Yes it would be possible, but of course that wont happen. Nintendo always likes to be a generation or two behind on new ideas(that they dont do first).

Well, I guess now I kinda have a reason not to even trust Nintendo's press site anymore. 😄

Shitty little flash memory, enough for game saves and VC games which are just emulated. It cant hold real downloads.
