That would be a PB NOT an AT

But a Metroid would be sweet. it could be like the large one from super metroid and raise the damage meater for the others or one that it hits. and lowers yours. or just hurting the other people would be sweet to.

It seems pretty obvious to me. Red doesn't actually fight; his pokemon do. It's like Zelda/Shiek, only with three. All three pokemon have different movesets, and different stats (Charizard's heavy but strong, Ivysaur is balance, Squirtle is quick but weak). And the Final Smash is probably a joint attack by all three.

All in all, despite my general dislike of Pokemon, I'll be trying this one out very soon after getting the game, because the idea and execution are very unique and original.

Maybe or maybe it's more of Samus and Zero Suit Samus; you know something has to happen in order for a certain Pokemon to be used.

I kind of hope it's the way you said. This would really add more into the SSBB arena by using Charizard, Ivysaur, and Squirtle.

No. It's not. Sakurai specifically stated how it works, and it's like Zelda/Shiek: Down Special. They're traded out in the set order of Squirtle-Ivysaur-Charizard. They share the damage meter, but they also have a stamina stat, meaning that you have to swap them out regularly or they'll be too tired to fight well.
