Expect a PM from McBeefington within the next five minutes, making some personal requests. sneer

Well then he's technically not my wife, then is he? 😬

Depends on what state you're in. But even in places such as California, knowing you, you'd be called the wife.

Psh, I keep my pedophilia in the open. And 16 is the new 18. And male is the new female.

The idea that you find me less masculine than Neph is probably the single most genuinely offensive remark I've ever endured ever.

In general, I'm a bit shocked that I'll be 20 next year. I feel like I was 8 yesterday.

Oh no, you're definitely more masculine than Neph, and slightly less than Veneficus. So it's not the worst thing in the world but it's pretty deplorable.

Some guys tend to feel that way when they look at their junk, but count by birthdays, not inches. sneer

This does not, though he does regularly attend the shooting range. But then again, he's liberal, which makes him less manly by definition than conservatives. 13

I think he's either a confused liberal or a closet conservative.. On another note, apparently Janus wants to debate something like the death penalty so we should have an informative Battle Bar once again.

Meh, political science bores me. (Which is unfortunate, given my major.)

The fact is that research overwhelmingly indicates that capital punishment as it currently stands does not meet its function as a deterrent.

So it is functionally suspect and morally ambiguous to many. The only valid argument that could be made, I suspect, is in the realm of economics.

Yawn. The deterrent argument.

Yawn. Smugness.

If you go into a political discussion already dismissing every possible argument of the other side, why are you bothering? If there is no combination of words that will get you to change your mind, what is my incentive for talking to you? You obviously aren't basing your position on evidence, so I'm not going to do the work to find more.

Yes, I agree, as it stands it isn't a deterrent. There needs to be less waiting time for appeals and death row. I mean we can go into it but why bother, since I haven't heard any good arguments against the death penalty. You get the occasional "who are you to..." mixed with "it is wrong to take a life" and finally "two wrongs don't make a right", and that's about it.

Whoa, someone obviously needs to check the status of his sarcasm detector.

Did you know that a good portion of online communication is lost due to lack of visible clues such as body language, accent, and barely contained laughter?

I'm going to assume that this was a hypoglycemic moment of unusual crabbiness and/or a complete absence of mutual understanding.

I personally don't see the merit in the death penalty beyond its potential uses as a deterrent. Beyond that, it seems to be nothing more than state-sanctioned vengeance. I'd need to delve deeper into the economy angle, the cost of financing amenities, food, and prisons for those criminals who qualify for execution versus the cost of killing them.

I'm not totally opposed to the idea, mind you, but I believe in the sanctity of life and I believe only the most compelling of reasons should force us to consider taking it. My views on abortion are similar; I don't subscribe to the mentality of either two of the increasingly popular and bewildering stereotypes: a conservative who's in favor of the death penalty and pro-life nor am I a liberal who's against the death penalty and pro-choice.

So you believe it should either serve as a deterrent or in its current form, die? Do you not believe that certain individuals deserve to die? I'm a strong proponent of a murderer not insulting society by having the ability to wake up every day.

Fixed.. As for abortion, I'm pro choice, anti abortion, if that makes any sense.
