The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

Here was always my biggest problem with Star Trek: The whole motivation for Nero to destroy Spock's planet was that the Klingon planet was destroyed. Spock was on his way to save that planet, but it's sun exploded before Spock could get there. So now, here they are, 30 years in the past.... spock hanging onto the green stuff..... wait a minute... why not go save the klingon planet now? Save both planets, everyone happy? It made no sense to me.

Well I think the direction they were going for was that he was utterly insane by that point.

But you forgot that he actually arrived much earlier and waited about 20 years for Spock to grow up.

Nero is the weakest aspect of that movie for sure. Saying he's insane only goes so far.

well even AFTER the movie was over, and nero was dead, couldn't they still have gone and saved the Klingon planet, thus erasing the events of the movie?

or at the very least, evacuate the planet, since they know it is going to explode in thirty years? As it is, the people on the Voyager just kept it to themselves that that planet was going to explode, until years later when Spock attempts his last second mission that ultimately fails? That makes no sense at all.

No, its an alternate timeline. His homeworld was destroyed. He can't change that. In fact, this could be an explanation for why he didn't bother warning his people.

Its like in Back to the Future:

_____________________ This is his timeline.
\
_\_________________________ This is the timeline he's in now.

I don't think he can change anything about the original.

J.J.Abrams made it this way because fans were pissed he's retconned all of Star Trek. So he just made it an alternate timeline, so all the original adventures still happened.

i guess. seems like a cop out! what fun is a time travel movie if nothing from the past even has a prayer of effecting the future? and why was old spock there if it was a different timeline? i missed where that was stated, and i saw the movie twice. my bad.

Also, in the alternative timeline (the new one) did the Klingon planet survive then? Since it wasn't destroyed yet?

Old Spock went through the same wormhole as Nero iirc. Just a few minutes later which apparantly translates into 20 years in SPACE SCIENCE! terms.

Dunno. Their star isn't going to supernova for like 50 years after the movie ended. Plus it was the Romulan homeworld.

First off, the word you're looking for is Romulan. Nero was Romulan. Next, the Romulan homeplanet is still there, I believe, but their sun is still going to explode in less than a generation.

Probably.

thanks, what are Klingons? I know i know that word in relation to...something... (the movie was my first brush with star trek other than a Commodore 64 video game I played when I was 12.

Also, so Red, can they go save it?

Klingons are the barbarians / war-tribe race (except with a monolithic centralized government).
They look like this:

or

Romulans are warlike patriots, also with a strong centralized government. They are biologically related to Vulcans.
Romulans look like this:

or

I think that the entire point of Nero's character was that he could have saved the Romulan homeworld, but instead chose to pursue retribution. (Because bitches be crazy)

Man, Star Trek sucks.

All of it except Ensign Monroooooooooooo!

question, would you bang that kinglon chick up there? Cause I just might. (as Barney would say from How I met Your Mother: "I turned it, AROUND."😉

How about this one?

Yah, I probably would.

Interestingly enough, I wondered the same thing when I saw the picture.

Considering shes a Klingon, I think she'd bang you.

Also yes.

Actually the original adventures probably didnt happen now because JJ Abram's movie completely changed Star Trek history.

I thought it was a good movie. Much betteroo than most of the other Star Trek movies made to date. But I didnt like the whole changing timeline thing.

The movie couldnt decide if it was a prequel or a reboot, and ended up being both (sort of). Just make it one or the other I say.

no to the second one. but yes to the first.
