Doctor Who movie incoming.

Zam, you're a Who fan. Thoughts?

Here's where I blow your minds:

I never understood the fascination with Dr Who.

Actually the original adventures probably didnt happen now because JJ Abram's movie completely changed Star Trek history.

I thought it was a good movie. Much betteroo than most of the other Star Trek movies made to date. But I didnt like the whole changing timeline thing.

The movie couldnt decide if it was a prequel or a reboot, and ended up being both (sort of). Just make it one or the other I say.

No. It is unequivocally a different timeline.

my first reaction: SQUEEE!
my second reaction: *Googles*
my third reaction: *cautiously optimistic*
I'm all in favor of an increased media profile, and a film will certainly achieve that. In general, I've found that Doctor Who fans (or "Whovians"😉 are unbearably elitist and smug. The number of times I've read dismissive posts about "the casual viewer" in the less than 3 months of online participation in the franchise is staggering.

Spoiler:
(Unsurprisingly, then, Ush's posts in the Doctor Who thread typify the fandom.)

Because history was changed right?? As in the orginal timeline with the original adventures has been wiped out of existence hasn't it? Thats how I understood it. Like in Back to the Future 2.

Me neither tbh

More importantly, I have played both Skyrim and Skyward Sword in the past day and may have accidentally discovered something akin to nirvana.

coffee? i'm drinking my second pot, and though i hate myself for it, it tastes so good i cannot stop. someone let me know if it kills people, cause right now i'm justifying it because it is. a. mostly water. b. more or less kept me from drinking booze in about a month.

No.

So what happens with the destruction of the Kelvin is the creation of an alternative timeline, but what happens to the prime timeline after Nero leaves it? Does it continue or does it wink out of existence once he goes back and creates this new timeline.

Bob: It continues. According to the most successful, most tested scientific theory ever, quantum mechanics, it continues.

This from an interview with one of the film's writers.

Me neither tbh

Okay, many people have different tastes in entertainment. You should know, however, that there is enough variance within the franchise that I believe everyone can find at least one episode to enjoy. I would wager that you would enjoy the hell out of an episode (from the Tennant years) called "Midnight."

If you watch that episode in its entirety, and offer honest feedback, I will endeavor to track down a media experience of your choice of comparable duration.

Ever see the movie Blood Diamond? Coffee cultivation is like that, except with ecological devastation fighting the corporations instead of movie stars.

well, i mostly just worried about it killing me from over-consumption...

Would it help more if I told you that it perpetuates a cycle of poverty, or that it can give you bad breath?

easily the latter. i'm an actor, i have my pride.

No, she should have told everybody and gotten those responsible arrested. My heart goes out to her but there's a reason that for every 1 or so suicides, you get hundreds or thousands of other kids dealing with the pressures. Doing nothing though, would be as crazy as creating laws. There needs to be a middle ground.

No, we should Go and arrest the ten year olds who made fun of her. Prisons the only place they belong.

C'mon, son. 🙄

If I was a parent, I would first go to the school. If the bullying persists, I would talk to the child's parents. If it still persisted, her parents would get a severe beating. And the last straw is me kicking the crap out of talkative, annoying child bullies.

Damn straight; that's what my parents did when I was bullied, and when it got to the point where the bullies were too old to feel threatened by my parents, I started cracking heads. A suspension or two later and the cowards wouldn't touch me. What's the point in having parents if they're too stupid to protect you? The people at fault in that girl's scenario was the mom who is obviously retarded and the parents of the bullies, who obviously failed to raise their child right.

The other side of that argument is that this generation's kids aren't mentally tough enough to handle their business, especially with the rise of the internet and the exponential increase of cyberbullying. In that regard, there needs to be some serious measures taken but setting laws against this opens up a whole new can of worms.

On a side note, getting my Revan novel at 8AM. Also, Assassins Creed Revelations

As long as you concede that someone has to do something, we can at least have the conversation. I agree that law is the wrong venue, but for activists it is usually the most effective.

Cyberbullying doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, tbh. I don't understand how one can be bullied in an environment that they have complete control over, as well as the ability to fight evenly. The internet is the ultimate leveling of the field.

I don't think anyone in this particular thread has ever said nothing should be done. "Sucking it up" would count as doing something, as well.

that's exactly right. no one things bullying is a good thing: I simply don't want to weaken free speech. Sticks and stones, and all that. She SHOULDN'T have killed herself. poor course of action, but kids lack scope.

It's a level playing field if computer knowledge is the same for all parties. Otherwise, you can do things on the internet that would be considered worse than death. To me, it's no difference than real life bullies who are bigger than you. You could always work out and get bigger and stronger, just like you can increase your computer proficiency.
