Stuff like this makes me incredibly glad I'm not religious. Some of these people need to get their heads out of their asses and let students live their lives, especially if it doesn't affect school. Parenting is for parents, not idiot teachers with weak rationalizations. Now THIS cause I can get behind.
What amazing logic. I think they should also ban getting taxi's. Who knows if the driver is a serial killer or not! Hell, stop talking to anyone outside the house! Girls get killed outside too! And who knows if they go outside and see a hot man, they'll lose all control and violate their orthodox code! Ban the outside world! Any student going outside should be expelled!
Jews should all go live in a cave! Its the only way to be safe! Won't someone please think of the children!? I NEED SCISSORS, 61!!!
Also how can the school fine students for having facebook pages? Surely they have no authority on what they do outside of school. Expelling students is already ridiculous, but how the **** can they fine them!?

The problem with religious Judaism is that many, if not most of its rabbinic (not halachic) tenets are designed to be a fence within a fence. Wellllll if this happens then something else will happen, then something else will happen so lets ban it altogether. I look at most of it and just shake my head because even I think it's retarded. Again, this is rabbinic law, not halachic.

Anything that draws some part of its doctrine from books like Leviticus is incredibly stupid.
I suppose.. Or you COULD at least provide an argument supporting your assertion (ironic since you just called me out on that). And please show understanding of Leviticus, not just a literal (or YOUR) interpretation. Not that I support Leviticus, but your statement makes the anti religious seem as ignorant as the religious.

DS, which "interpretations" will you admit? Given your refusal to use a literal one (entirely reasonable) or one imagined by Janus himself, is there a party that is sufficiently objective for you? (Leviticus seems, to me, to be one of the hardest books to reinterpret in modern terms; nothing that damns shrimp (Lev. 11-10) can be particularly meaningful to daily life in the 21st century.)
There's a reason we have the written torah and the oral torah. I never said I accept everything or anything in Leviticus, it's just that I find it amusing that those without any knowledge take a literal meaning and call it stupid. For instance, I can at least call some of the rabbinic laws stupid because I understand them. Now whether I'm right or wrong, is another story. I'm sure we will agree on many interpretations, btw.

You are kind of an aberration, in terms of internet personalities.

I suppose because I find both groups to be insufferable. I don't understand why it's so hard to NOT preach about your belief in god or lack thereof.
In that case, you've just failed intro to philosophy. I'm surprised you've seen the light though because unfortunately, I don't think Janus has. There's a reason why he still can't understand how I can support both a religious and secular perspectives when from the outside, they appear to be contradicting one another.

Atheists are worse; I could at one point cite which chapter of which Dawkins book the argument was coming from. I just feel like I've already seen everything that debate has to offer, and have moved on to more interesting questions.
I think I know them well enough that I'll pass intro to philosophy without too much trouble 😉

What are those arguments specifically? And I said you've failed intro to philosophy because you pretty much admitted that you can't prove or disprove religion.
The problem with these arguments, from a Judeo-Christian perspective, is that going from "First Cause" to "Personal God" is too much of a leap. I might concede the necessity of an unmoved mover (in a word, Deism) but that isn't enough to prove a personal God. (And I'm not even sure I concede that much, to be honest.)
And on the other side of the debate, truthful Epistemology has to acknowledge that it is impossible to prove a negative. To quote Hermione Granger,
But that’s—I’m sorry, but that’s completely ridiculous! How can I possibly prove it doesn’t exist? Do you expect me to get hold of—of all the pebbles in the world and test them? I mean, you could claim that anything’s real if the only basis for believing in it is that nobody’s proved it doesn’t exist!
