Two bad after (seriosuly don't read this if you haven't read it, even if you don't plan on doing it right now)
Spoiler:
"Elle" dies
the manga kind of becomes pretty mediocre with
Spoiler:
"Enne" and "Emme"
being really dissapointing replacements with a really dissapointing ending.

I was rooting for Light throughout, so I didn't mind him beating on those two losers.

Spoiler:
In the anime Light lost and died... I'd assume the same happened in the manga.

If you guys can point me to something that isn't like that, please do so. I try to give all literature a try (even Twilight..... I regret that)

Berserk! Its probably the most epic thing Ive ever read, and you'll find its probably the furthest thing from what you were mentioning that you could find. Very serious, dark and mature, and everything about it is juyst incredibly epic and badass, especially the main character. Only problem is that it takes forever for the artist to release new chapters (it's currently ongoing with over 300 chapters released, and at the rate he's wiritng it and how much of the story's left it's probably going to take about 20 years to finish it... if he ever does). The anime is also really good, but it only adapts a very small part of the manga (like virtually the intro). But still, it's probably one of the most incredible things I've ever read. It honestly makes something like Game of Thrones look like shit imo. Its a dark fantasy/war series btw.

Yes, Berserk is amazing. Nemebro-sama also says Vinland Saga is good.

Yeah. 🙁

Spoiler:
He survives and becomes a shinigami in one version though.

Out of everything that I've read to completion/am up to date with, Bererk and Monster (by same artist as 20th century boys) are probably the two best I've ever read, and I can't actually think of any anime I've seen that even come close now that I think about it, even stuff like Cowboy Bebop or Neon Genesis Evangelion imo. Gantz is also good, but some parts of it might be too whacky for you.

here is good resource for anime/mange: myanimelist.net

Usually I use the rankings for both anime and manga, and then look at individual reviews and user recommendations for stuff I like to find stuff to read/watch. Pwned you could use it and then just look at the genres and ignore everything comedy or action for the most part.

Apparently this is kind of stuff NemeBro is into:

😂 😂

Full Metal Alchemist is a lot of fun.

You ever watch Brotherhood? I felt it was even better.

I saw the early episodes but fell away from it before the series ended

It is better imo.

'Both Yoda and Anakin have telekinetic feats that outweigh Bane's'.

Man, G1d3on has some dumbass friends.

Dude would hand you your ass, bro.

While I of course don't talk to socks, I'll note to the rest of you that the man then goes on to argue that Maul could defeat Zannah on Ambria.

Where is this at?

Comic Vine.

Oh whoops, not on Ambria. At least he isn't completely insane.

Love how there's all this mega-text writing to prove a point, etc., then some dude with a Bartman avatar goes "team 1" and calls it a day.

Reminds me of KMC's younger days.

You should come over to comicvine Janus. Gideon has quite the confidence in his new boyfriend.

All day spent reading the Fiendish Codexes, Elder Evils, and Lords of Madness. Not sure how much time I can spend reading anything else. So much information its overwhelming (with a "Wh-" sounding like Jack Black saying "Way" at the end of The Pick of Destiny, "Hway"😉
Osh-

Of the Elder Evils, Pandorym, the cosmic god-killing superweapon was probably my favorite.

Dagon is my favorite Fiend in the setting, HP Lovecraft references are kewl.

Aboleths too gewd.

Also: Vinland Saga is incredible. It's like Berserk, but with Vikings and historical basis. Both are far from the Shounen tropes you bemoaned. Both have manly characters doing manly things, made all the manlier that they don't go as hammy or over the top with them.

Really... Berserk is without doubt my favorite manga of all time. It's nothing short of a masterpiece.

Brotherhood is indeed better. Me? I'm a real badass. I read the manga. estahuh

Other manga you may like that isn't uber Shounen nonsense like that is, let's see, you may like Monster. It's a sort of detective manga with some nigga trying to locate and kill the titular monster, a vicious young man who does vicious young things. Black Lagoon you might like, its main flaw being that many of the characters, namely the women, are massively unlikeable bitches that it gets hard to care. For straight anime that you might like, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Shamploo are excellent, CB being a noir story of space bounty hunters (cowboys) just trying to make a living, with the main character's dark past and desire for revenge tied in. Samurai Shamploo is made by the same people, but is a bit less serious in style most of the time, revolving around a young girl hiring two bodyguards who couldn't be much different to protect her while she journeys to find a man from her past. The action, characters, and writing of both are great.

Just a few examples of anime that don't follow what you dislike about the medium (More the shounen genre really, and even in shounen that kinda shit is not universal), if you want and if you tell me other stuff you look for in your fiction in general I may be able to recommend more to you.

Also, Light is bad and you should feel bad Nephthys. L is twice the detective he is.
