It's like Berserk, but with Vikings and historical basis. Both are far from the Shounen tropes you bemoaned. Both have manly characters doing manly things, made all the manlier that they don't go as hammy or over the top with them.Really... Berserk is without doubt my favorite manga of all time. It's nothing short of a masterpiece.
Me? I'm a real badass. I read the manga. estahuh
Other manga you may like that isn't uber Shounen nonsense like that is, let's see, you may like Monster. It's a sort of detective manga with some nigga trying to locate and kill the titular monster, a vicious young man who does vicious young things.
Bro... this is like, your best post ever.

Beat you to it.Neme, how do you feel about Ghost in the Shell?
As we seem to be on same wavelength, I will answer for him. 😄
I liked it, but it was a little too heavy for me personally. Nothing wrong with that but I like all that philosophical stuff to be balanced out with the batshit whackyness of something like Neon Genesis Evangelion, or stuff like the mentioned Berserk or Monster which does have those elements but has much more of a focus on awesome drama and thrilling action and excitement.

I've never seen the movie nor read the manga, never really got around to it myself.
SAC was pretty good though, season 2 wasn't quite as interesting as 1, but still good for me. And, if the philosophical mumbo jumbo and technobabble ever becomes hard to follow, the show is kind enough to usually provide an ample view of the Major's ass to distract you until the scene is over (Of course, this probably means nothing to you lol).

Those two are pretty good though. They once made a very good case for Palpatine regarding his fight with Mace Windu found here: http://www.comicvine.com/myvine/silver2467/palpatine-vs-mace-windu-what-really-happened/87-77247/
particularly the part on Lucas' commentary, which was:
"Okay, well, this sequence always started out with Mace overpowering Palpatine, and then Palpatine using his powers to try to destroy Mace, and Mace deflecting his rays with his lightsaber. And it always was that Anakin cut the lightsaber out of his hand. But this part where he pretends to lose his power and be weak was something that I added later, 'cause this is, it moved the point where Anakin turns down to this moment right here, and you can see now, that it's very clear that he's, he, he wants him to go on trial so he can pump him for information about how to get these powers."

If you fail to pay attention to context, this sounds like Lucas said that Mace in fact did defeat Palpatine. However, you need to notice the comment as a whole. Lucas starts off by offering a description on a certain scene, but then he moves on to tell how he fitted details in with one another. But this is the distinction: He describes a sequence of events as the viewer sees them at first, giving a brief background on what sequence in particular he is talking about, but then his focus shifts from what the audience sees to what the characters' intentions are and what they experience and think. So from the context of simply a perceivable sequence, no, this does not constitute proof that Lucas stated that Mace did really defeat Palpatine
