Does it explain why Maul is crazy enough to think he can win? Cuz Talzin exorcised all his crazy in the show.

He doesn't instigate the fight, Sidious does.Maul has just staged a coup and has pretty much taken over Mandalore. Satine has been killed and her forces routed, Pre Vizsla murdered and the remnants of the Death Watch are under the command of Bo-Katan, who has allied with Obi-Wan to topple Maul.
Maul claims to have done all this to get back into Sidious's good graces and kneels before him, but Sidious says he's become a rival and attacks both Maul and Opress.

Moar wanking prose for Sidious, whose presence makes the Force "roil" like "a sea caught in the grip of a storm." An unseen presence pwnz Maul's bodyguards and he arrives, "a dark sun blazing with power that was simultaneously hypnotizing and terrifying to behold." Maul kneels, Savage is "transfixed," Sidious declines Maul's explanations and Force chucks them both across the room.They recover and attack; Sidious holds their blades at bay with two of his own, and while he strains to do so, both are "startled by the seemingly frail man's enormous strength." Sidious smiles and the scene diverts to Kenobi and Bo-Katan's assault against Maul's commandos elsewhere.
When we return, Sidious is turning aside all their blows, and Maul muses that though his power increased since his rebirth from Talzin's restoration and his training of Savage, he's still in "awe" of Sidious, who is pretty much manhandling them both. Maul overextends and manages to avoid being cut in half, Sidious hurls him aside with the Force.
Savage attempts to cut the distracted Sidious down, but Palpatine side-steps and impales him. Sidious steps aside and allows Maul to comfort the dying Opress, who withers as Talzin's energies leave him.
Sidious tells Maul that he's been replaced, then attacks him, too fast for Maul to defend against. Maul is disarmed and then Sidious uses the Force to bash him into the wall, floor, and then the wall again.
Then Maul begs for mercy and Sidious tortures him with Force lightning.
