The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

It's my second year, but I have Junior standing. I signed ("pledged?"😉 Theta Chi, which is my roomate/best friend's group. He joined up in the beginning of year one.

Michigan (?) is a good school- it seems like you'd have a whole lot of alumni to pay for things if you signed up there. And I've already heard about extra internships available because of brothers who prefer to hire other alumni. I think you should at least look into signing (if it isn't too late!).

Q, the problem is that the Sith are the bad guys and they can't win for very long. Also, they aren't too keen on consent of the governed or any of that rot. So they are poooooooops.

Honestly the Jedi seem better at holding on to it than Sith. The only long-lasting Sith empires are the ones that don't have total control. The others are lucky to get a few decades.

Could be because the Jedi don't actually "hold on to", "possess", "rule" or "control" anything.

They're just keepers of the peace. Kind of like an independent police force, but with much more dedication to their moral values.

Sophomore, that's good- college is going by too quickly, I can't believe I'm a junior.

What university do you go to btw? So did you just skip rushing and went straight to pledging for Theta Chi? Have fun pledging- big time commitment but it'll be all worth it in the end during your initiation. Hopefully there's no hazing!

As for myself, yes, I go to Michigan- great school! And ya, huge alumni network. I don't see myself as a frat boy rly- Phi Delta Epsilon is a coed medical fraternity (one of those professional ones), so I don't believe there's a whole pledging process. Plus, I would be a founding member if I get accepted. But I'm sure it'll be really fun anyway.

They tend to lead Republic and rebellion forces against Sith, though.

They don't directly control, but they push back whenever anyone else tries to take over.

They lead those forces, usually at the behest of the people they're leading.

Jedi very rarely, if ever, assert control- they're leadership is usually requested first.

Of course, there was a fair amount of time, especially during the New Sith Wars, where Jedi were usually the Grand Chancellor of the Republic.

And again, this is usually at the behest of the rest of the Galaxy.

Jedi don't "take" control, it's given to them, which is my point. The way they "lead" the Galaxy is entirely different conceptually and morally than how the Sith do it.

The Sith are direct rulers, governors, administrators, policy makers, law makers etc. The Jedi don't really get in to that.

Excepting the Jedi Lords period when a lot started taking over planets and such, viewing the Republic as too weak to protect.

I'm pretty sure its mentioned somewhere that having a Jedi be Chancellor of the Republic was fairly common in the Exar Kun-Old Republic-era.

It might have been in the Bane books.

During the New Sith Wars (the ones that ended with Kaan, but started around a thousand years before), there was something like a 400 year stretch with no non-Jedi chancellors.

It's okay, I have a natural tendency to spew out nonsense sometimes...

Guess Raz finally saw the lack of participation and inevitable death of this subforum and decided to wise up. Smart move Raz. I'd cool it with the email confirmations though. Not exactly a barrier.

Just reading Tales of the Jedi, finished the Naga Sadow story and the Freedon Nadd ones.

First- the plot structure is pretty good. People stumbling on a threat, Naga using various deceptive plots, sister trying to get the story out, etc.. Very SW-y.

Second- Gav is an *idiot*. His sister too, to an extent, but especially Gav.

Third- Force powers wise, it was all about the magic. The first story arc had a single sword duel, and it was interrupted by a Sith ghost (who really shouldn't have interrupted; best thing for him to do is hope Sadow loses), and the second had the dark side user use waves of darkness and stuff and again no duel. Battle meditation and illusions took center stage (Arca Jeth was kinda a jerk- "You shouldn't have relied so much on your sabers, you should've relied on battle meditation like I did." "Master, you never taught us battle meditation." "So I didn't. Well, I guess the test was too hard for you."😉

Forth- That said, some of the big feats were somewhat less bad then expected. Like Naga Sadow and the sun- he really just made a solar flare, and then existing instabilities in the sun made it go boom. Even making a flare is on the silly side, though.

Nice glad you enjoyed it and thanks. Daniel Wallace is actually very good friend of mine and he did lettering for all Star Wars comics back in that era of Del Ray publishing.
