The first Hunger Games movie was gay though.
Disagreed. It was pretty good.

My wife dragged me to the first hunger games movie and my initial reaction was "gay". But the movie was phenomenal, got way into the series and then read the books. The books were just awful. Rushed, no amount of thought put into them after the brilliant dystopian future idea. Needless to say, I realized they were written for children. The movies are vastly superior to the books. Now, countdown begins for The Hobbit. I think we can all agree that Peter Jackson is vastly superior to GL in filmmaking and it's not even close. I mean 13 years after his LOTR trilogy, he makes another masterpiece (especially since people were skeptical about its quality beforehand).
👆
GL made a truly original setting back in the late 70s, early 80s (even if he was attempting to ape Buck Rogers in some way), but when the PT came around, the quality level dropped. I mean, parts of the OT are cultural staples, memes known from old age to young. The PT, by comparison, might have perpetuated the fame of Jar-Jar and that's about it to anyone who had never watched them.
The first Hobbit film was terrible. I was entertained by it, but it was still bad, from a mechanical perspective. The CGI is weak, the characterization of the dwarves is all weak, especially compared to the handling of the Fellowship.
There's more, but I can't even begin to adequately explain all my butthurt for that movie. I'll need time to formulate my thoughts. All I can say is, watching any of the Lord of the Rings films after or immediately before watching the Hobbit makes me cry.
The songs were awesome though.
I admit the LotR trilogy is stronger in comparison. It also had a more mature and complete source material. In terms of Tolkien's good works, my list goes something like this:
1. Silmarillion
2. LotR trilogy
3. The Lost Tales
4. Children of Hurin
5. The Hobbit
But the Hobbit is still better than say, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, or Revenge of the Sith.

The Silmarillion's start-up is so agonizingly slow and boring that I never got past it.Does it get better?
I admit, I found it easier because I was weaned on ancient mythology, legends, and later on stuff like Howard Pyle's Ye Olde English King Arthur and Beowulf. It is not easy reading. However, it is much later very rewarding reading. It provides a lot of missing context and history to the original books, and in retrospect is still my favorite of the works. I've read it three times now, working on my fourth.

Dolos is, by his own admission, mentally ill. He's talked about it at length in the GDF.
You insensitive monster.
Says the dude with IED.
I suspected Dolos has issues. He's always saying things off the wall and he's right now lying to me in the Dream thread that he didn't say he believed in astrology when he did, and then lied about Lucien mentioning alien DNA. For no gain, I might add.
Neph, I admit I have not been following much of the Free Will thread, just because once I saw him start posting I realized it might be derailment city. I was already countering him elsewhere.

If only Hitler had won WWII and stomped the Commies, think of how safe the world would be from mutually assured destruction via nukes.
Also, where did he admit to having mental issues? I don't see anything relating to that, besides the thread where he accused someone on KMC of controlling his compu- oh...
Nevermind.

Maybe comparing 30 years and 13 years isn't really valid but Peter Jackson maintained a certain level of perfection through this new trilogy. And I don't know how one can say The Hobbit was terrible. It was goddamn awesome. This trilogy may not rival LOTR(although nobody expects it to), but it looks like it will be damn close, which nobody thought was possible. As far as I'm concerned though, LOTR is the perfect trilogy.
Not sure if consistency atrophies with time among the same creator (it certainly didn't with Tolkien).
It's not an issue of technological development though. Jurassic Park, circa 1993, is a badass movie with CGI and special effects to rival films even now. Plus the storytelling was fairly solid (I am biased towards the book, but I still loved the hell out of the film when it came out and watched it back to back often as a child).
That's a perfect example of time not being a huge indicator of what is or isn't a good film. Later Jurassic Park titles were flawed because in the case of The Lost World, they deviated too much from the book and were rubbish, and the other titles thereafter are original theatre creations and action packed trash.
Let's try a group exercise:
1. Imagine three of the most iconic moments in the OT, in your eyes..
2. Now imagine three of the most iconic moments of the PT, also in your eyes.
It's hard to imagine any iconic moments in the PT to be honest with you. The fact that we already knew who Darth Sidious was...The fact that it was established that Anakin was a whiny *****. I mean as far as iconic goes, my #1 moment has to be the first time we see Yoda take up the lightsaber againse Dooku.
OT:
1: Luke blows up the Death Star/Obi-Wan dies/ oh man, just a ton of moments
2: "No, I am your father!"
3: Yub nub eee chop yub nub ah toe meet toe pee-chee keene g'noop dock fling oh ah.
PT:
1: Pod Racing.... no it isn't really iconic. Ahhhhh, Darth Maul in the hanger.
2: Um.......
3. "UUUUNNNNNLIIIIIIMIITED POOOOOWEEEEEEEERRRRR!!!!!!!"
"I'm honestly confused here. Are you seriously arguing that the Empire decreasing poverty and raising the standards of living makes up for their countless crimes against humanity? Are you saying that the Republic is worse than people who blow up planets, enslave entire populaces and are literally cackling madmen?"YES, and right now you suck at arguing against that plight.
Holy shit. haermm
