Jesus lol. U mad, bro?1. Palpatine in TPM ordered the invasion and oppression of his home planet, the death of Jedi, manipulated Padme into crippling Valorum's regime, and generally threatened our heroes through Maul. He did plenty of stuff. He just didn't personally, physically harm anyone until ROTS.
2. Nah, I've read plenty of reviews by people over the years who found the subversion of democracy both poignant and compelling. And we actually don't 'see' the Empire oppress anyone in the OT, either; we're just told that they do.
3. I'd say ordering planetary invasions, deaths, etc. is pretty evil?
4. Cool. So we have to have a personal relationship with each and every casualty of the war? lmao
5. Order 66 and the massacre of the Jedi younglings and all the shit that happened in the latter half of ROTS was on Palpatine's order. Anakin was merely the instrument.
6. You're precious when you're angry.
1. And the invasion and oppression again happen off-screen. SHOW us that they're being oppressed. Don't just say it. Palpatine manipulating Padme would be pretty good if the scene was better. If Padme showed an emotion, if the politics weren't so tedious and if Palps was in any way sinister while he did it. And doing bad things via the proxy of Maul doesn't count.
2. We see them capture Leia and torture her, murder Luke's aunt and uncle (well, we see their smoking corpses), kill Ben and blow up a planet. In just the first movie. We see enough to know why they're the bad guys, why we should hate them and why there's tension in the final battle as the Death Star gets nearer and nearer to firing.
3. Its too removed. Just ordering something isn't enough. At the least have them order it and react in some villainous way. Sidious doesn't do this because he;s too much of a non-entity.
4. No. I praised the scene where Anakin kills some nameless younglings. You just have to show the audience why they should care. In Saving Private Ryan, whatshisface looks around at the dozen of people getting gunned down. We see people screaming as they die, we see people clutching at stumps. The movie shows us the cost and horror of war. Lucas doesn't do this. Even in ANH we see Leia's terror as the laser prepares to fire on Alderaan and we see Ben feel the destruction. Just saying 'Begun, the Clone Wars have' isn't enough.
5. And I praised it as being Sidious finally showing some villainous chops. It just took him too long to actually do anything himself.
