Nah, I prefer games that have interesting plots, good gameplay, and where decisions actually matter.
> Good gameplay
> Witcher series
mmm
You're kidding right? There is almost nothing unique about the Dragon Age world... The plot is pretty much the generic standard fantasy fare.
No, if the dwarves spoke with a Scottish (Or Yiddish, if you go for the older example) accent, that would be generic fantasy fare. 👆
One of the most blatant examples is that the Mages arerip offsheavily inspired by the Aes Sedai of WoT. Both go to a special tower to train. Both run the risk of being corrupted and going insane. Both have ways to remove the ability to use magic (gentled/stilled in Wot; tranquil in DA) to prevent said corruption, both have a religious order that keeps them in check, both have a caste based society from beyond the sea that "leashes" mages and treats them as property, etc...There are plenty of other similarities between the two as well.
Being an homage is not being derivative. What makes or breaks any element of a setting is how it is used.
Compare how they are used, my son.
LotR, Earthsea, Gentlemen Bastard, GoT, the First Law, Broken Empire, Kingkiller Chronicles, Black Company, etc
Ew, Rothfuss.

He wrote NV which you suck off at every opportunity.Dysfunctional characters are interesting characters. Seriously, who wants to talk to a party member in a game who has no problems at all? They'd be like that boring **** Disciple. And his stories aren't sarcastic, he just deconstructs things a lot.
B. My post directly indicated that Avellone can produce quality, and he often does. His work just happens to be fairly samey in tone, which is more or less fine since he does it well.
There is nothing wrong with a character who isn't an emo brooding pile of shit who needs to calm the **** down and lay off the My Chemical Romance. Aveline was one of the best characters in DA2, and she was also one of the most well-adjusted. Same with Varric.
Also, your strawman was relatively subtle, but not below my gaze. No problems at all? When did I say they have to have no problems at all? Even a well-adjusted character can have problems. But when every character in your game has a soap opera-esque dark and tragic past? Well that's just a little silly, and to Avellone's credit he does manage to write this well enough to still make for a good game with good characters, it is all he writes. Seriously, he is not as good as you make him.
Deconstructs things? Sure, but his method towards doing so is sort of lazy and ignoring context. Some cursory knowledge of Taoism would have rendered his silly deconstruction of the Force in Kotor 2 entirely pointless. And does, mind you.

NemeBro, rank Firefly, Angel, and Buffy in terms of quality.
That's not a fair comparison and you know it.
Angel had far longer to develop characters and develop more intricate and complicated plotlines, whereas Firefly was canned after one season.
Angel affected me more, sure, but Firefly was arguably the most consistently high quality show Whedon has made, with maybe one bad episode (The one with the hookers). Buffy of course had two or three stinkers of seasons, so it probably places last, but then I think of the good parts of Buffy that have stuck with me longer than Firefly.
Angel is better than Buffy, and is better than Firefly, but to be fair, that's because Firefly never had the time to grow. Firefly's first season is better than the first season of either.
Also, I would eat Kaylee's poop just to taste anything that came from her.

Whedon's writing style from what I have seen comes off as very anvilicious, overly-snarky to the point of distracting, and sometimes campy.
Compare to Avellone with his "**** THE FORCE IT'S AN EVIL GOD HERE I WILL CREATE AN OLD HAG OF A SITH TO RANT ABOUT MY OWN MISUNDERSTANDINGS OF THE FORCE", and frankly Atton was just Xander with a totally edgy past. Whedon is pretty anvilicious, yes, and I always sort of smirk/cringe whenever someone in Angel or Buffy outright refers to themselves as "evil" the same way someone would refer to themselves as "gay" or "a pedophile".
Overly snarky... Man, have you played an Obsidian game recently?
Campy?
Avellone wrote Fallout 2 and NV. 😐
I don't get that impression from Obsidian. It could be that I'm missing some grand piece of work from Whedon, but what I have seen parts of (Buffy, Angel, the Avengers) just reeks of snark-camp, and I can't take it seriously as media. It's just for superficial entertainment value and doesn't invoke any higher reasoning.
Or maybe you're just a pussy.
Also, Whedon's particularly good at allegory. Like Angelus being a really grimdark allegory of when a girl sleeps with a guy and he acts like a huge douchebag afterwards.

Kreia didn't bother me. While I don't agree with her philosophy, she's a hell of a lot better written than Campy Demon of the Week, or Girl Who Kicks Ass With No Shoes On.

Several. While snark is liberally applied in some cases (NWN 2 OC is chock full of it), the main storyline doesn't suffer for it. Meanwhile, Whedon can't even write The Avengers without me going "God, I wish this superhero collage film would have less obvious snark".

I don't follow.

Calm down.

Wow, that's so deep. No wonder you like it; all those douchebag alpha guys who jilted you.
