Its from the remake movies, which has far better animation than the TV series. The movies were supposed to be more accessible to new viewers and less insane. But then the 3rd movie came out aaaaand no. Watch the original series. It's one of the most influential anime ever made for a reason.

But I think Japanese writers need to start... going to therapy or something. We get it. You don't like feeling like a "burden" and you have permanent existential crises.

One of my old roommates had me watch a couple episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I find it interesting that accessibility seems to be the motive behind these remakes.
