Kylo was great. I loved how vulnerable he was without his mask on. Such an emotional performance.

My baby girl, ares. I'm guessing you've seen it now. Have you accepted the truth once again?

Spoiler:
OMG! SNOKE ISNT PLAGUEIS! HE'S SOA!!!

"My baby girl"

😂

Have you no honor?!

Snoke was the bees knees of the film.

Look at Luke's hair. He can say anything, and it'd be golden.

Spoiler:
Especially because he says nothing and it's still golden.

"I have a perm. Like my father before me."

He was nonexistent. Basically Palpatine 2.0, hopefully we learn more about him because right now he is generic and boring as hell.

Luke is a coward. Hiding. Letting others die. Ffs Luke.

It's starting in 11 minutes for me, I can't wait?!!

They set the stage for him. They will flesh him out in the sequels. His look was interesting to say the least. Kylo was quite the tortured man.

Nice!

Kylo Ren and Rey were my favorite characters in the movie- Ren especially. He brought a real sense of pathos to a film where literally every other character is firmly established on the morality scale (Finn good! Rey good! Piett 2.0 baaad! Snoke baaaad!)- he is in my mind what Anakin in the prequels would have been like if he'd been written better (and that likely is not a coincidence).

That said, overall this film... wasn't exactly disappointing to me, but I did walk out of the theater feeling pretty I dunno, pedestrian I guess. From both a story and mechanical (film-making) perspective, I feel that it isn't a bad movie but it had a lot of potential that went unfulfilled.

Luke totally had this Olympian god vibe going on.

Also...

Spoiler:
Did anyone understand what the state of the galaxy (politically) is right now? I mean we've got the Republic and the First Order, but who are the resistance, and why are the Republic only secret backing them? Is this a proxy war or something, are they supposed to be at peace? Do the Republic just not care? Where are they based? Did they get wiped out with all those planets?

Yeah altogether kind of confused with that.

They did an incredibly shit job in providing exposition about that. My understanding is that the Republic is its own sovereign entity and the First Order is its own sovereign entity. They generally don't **** with each other, but the FO is planning the downfall of the Republic with its super-weapon and the Republic tacitly funds the Resistance, which acts against the Order's interests within First Order space.

That makes sense, but yeah poorly explained. It's ironic really because I expect the aversion from getting to stuck in to the political backdrop was a result of the backlash from the PT, but it was left so vague that it actually made the movie worst rather than better.

I would have really actually appreciated some exposition from within the Republic, maybe some political scenes with Leia or something. Really I didn't feel I knew anything about the Republic, so didn't much care

Spoiler:
when Starkiller base blew up a bunch of their planets.

Lol its ridiculous that no one mentions

Spoiler:
that they had actually succeeded in destroying the Republic capital and likely killing Mon Mothma. I mean what the ****. Also I don't like how both the fledgling Jedi Order and the New Republic are annihilated within the first movie essentially to return the status quo of the OT.

Meh
Spoiler:
who knows if Mothma is even still alive, what frustrates me more is the significance of those planets is never really explained, nor are they given names, is the Republic gone now or what? I don't even know.

But yeah, it was very much a rehash of ANH and only superior where it was different.

Spoiler:
No but they could have easily made this way better. Example:
Admiral Ackbar (transmitting holographically to Leia): Hosnian Prime was annihilated as well as every habitable world in the Hosnian system. Billions were destroyed in an instant.
Leia: Admiral, we know where that weapon is, this is a declaration of war if I've ever seen one, we need the Republic Fleet.
Ackbar: It was a trap General Organa, as we lost contact with Hosnian Prime, the First Order launched strikes against every major military installation we have in the Core Worlds. Our entire military is engaged. The entire First Fleet has been destroyed and with Hosnian Prime gone, we have no Chancellor, no Senate. I'm afraid the Resistance must end this threat without our support.
Leia: Understood Admiral, we will make it work.
Ackbar: May the Force be with you!

Then have Ackbar and some New Republic ships come in to help at the very end to turn the tide of the battle. Cause Ackbar wasn't even mentioned by name lol he was just casually there as an adviser to Leia.

Was that supposed to be Ackbar? Lol I though it was just some Mon Calamari dude

I would have taken it a step further though, actually putting in some politics scenes to highlight the relationship between the First Order, Republic and Resistance.

I think it would have been really cool to have say interactions with the First Order and Republic pretending to be friends, with the Resistance trying to stop Starkiller Base in the background.
