The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

I'm going to see it again before making a more in-depth review about it. I was pretty tired when I saw it the first time, slightly uncomfortable due to sitting in literally the first row (and I got to the theater three hours before my showing- a taste of how insane the ****ing line was) and filled with expectations.

This time I'll hopefully be more comfortable and also able to go in with a more objective mindset.

My second watch will be Sunday night. Which characters did you like in this film based off your first showing ?

I'll be seeing my showing at 9:30am tomorrow. From the footage I've seen via trailers and TV spots and the reviews, I have some deep-seated predictions about how this thing will play out, good and bad.

But my chief concern of it being a rehash seems to be legitimate.

To use reddit terminology, yes, it's poetry.

Just watched the film again. Still 10/10!

Could you explain your statement without spoilers?

.

ILS, way to be a 10/10 *******. Like, ****ing seriously? 😬

Nalaniel, don't read ILS' post if you haven't yet. Spoilers.

.

Ngl, I lol'd. Clever bastard.

:>

Kylo Ren was a seriously lame villain.

Not as lame as Loki or Elf King Guy tbh.

LOL Neph taking a Dig at Thor movie villains thinking that will hurt me.

I didn't like TDW. And you must be the only person who doesn't like Loki.

But why not compare Ren to.. You know SW villains... Compare him even to the Prequel Darksiders and he just doesn't compare at all.

Heck the Inquisitor in Rebels was a far better villain.

As the new big bad Darksider Ren's failed (for me at least). No way I'm adding a Ren toy to my collection.

toy....... collection.

Saw the movie. It was a pretty stupid movie, but I don't hold that against it. Star Wars is stupid by default. I will say it was a fun movie, and it really milked the nostalgia well.

EDIT: I will say Kylo Ren is... a stupid character, but I'm not sure how much to blame that on Star Wars' inherent pulp.

I can totally get people not liking Ren. He's kind of a love him or not character. I don't see how he's a dumb or badly written one though.

Yeah, there's a difference between the villain not being what you wanted versus the villain being poorly written. Kylo Ren is an insecure phuck boi compared to Vader, but it's obvious that he isn't supposed to be Vader. And Rey beating his ass will likely just give him an even bigger chip on his shoulder, making him even stronger, and will likely blossom into a pretty cool rivalry between him and Rey over the course of the series.

If you want the self-assured, brutally evil villain ala Vader than that's what Snoke and the other Imperials are for. It's what Phasma should have been... instead of what she was.

Probably the most disappointing element of the film. TRAITOR was a bigger badass than her.

I was really upset with the lack of Phasma. I so expected her to be the first awesome female villain in a Star Wars film. She ended up being nothing, really. A few lines, tries to act intimidating, and then nothing.

Really sad about that. 🙁

They copied the Boba Fett formula too religiously i.e. looks cool but does next to nothing and then gets taken out in the lamest way.

I mean, we didn't even get a scene with her in the trash compactor. 🙁
