His failure will only deepen. He had Kanan in the perfect position, on his own, in Maul's homebase and with his guard down and is still going to bungle everything like a no-legged clown. He was too chickenshit to even take a swing at him.

Tell me would he have Vader or Palpatine looking like a buffoon failing to kill Kanan twice? And almost definitely getting embarrassed by his crew.
Heck there's even a scene in the trailer where Ezra kicks him down.
The whole point of having Inquisitors was so that you can have villains that can be defeated and embarrassed on a weekly basis without putting the classic villains down in that way.
In fact you know what, I doubt he'd even embarrass Cad Bane like that. Cad Bane in fact got the better of TCW Jedi in their prime plenty of times.

However I don't why you are attempting to look at every villain through the same lens, a villain can work and be worked in a number of ways. Look at the Joker, Batman embarrasses him every day of the week (in fact, this goes for a lot of comic super-villains) is he a poor villain as well? And this obsession over Maul never having his el33t skillz compromised (oh noes Ezra kicked him!) I simply don't understand, his fighting skills will always be secondary to his character for me, and any advantages the heroes gain over him only makes them look better.

You're talking about a character who was introduced for his as a bad ass Sith Lord with Fighting SKILLS in the actual films. Now I appreciate how TCW showed he was trained in all the ways of the Sith- politics, manipulation e.t.c.
But where has Rebels taken him? His plans suck, he's gained nothing. He's looking like a fool attempting to cheap shot Kanan all the time and failing. So All his Skills, Physical and Mental are being downgraded.
But hey look he's a Joke now.. Let's all Laugh at what a failure Maul is now.. Hahaha
And FYI, Joker gets beaten and embarrassed by Batman. I.e. Someone Noteworthy. But guess what, he's known for brutally beating some of Batman's sidekicks.
