The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

Well, speaking of Andrew Jackson, he won both the electoral college vote and the popular vote yet he still lost the Presidency because he didn't get a majority of EC votes and his opponent had more friends in the HoR. Which is rather stupid.

Anyways, it doesn't seem like there's much of a reason to even count the popular vote other than for statistical purposes and causing the occasional outrage when the person with the EC majority doesn't have the popular majority. The popular vote literally never gives you the win, nor does it contribute to a win in any way, shape or form when all is said and done.

But Jackson was president? Or am I missing something? I haven't been really following.

He's referring to Adams vs Jackson.

Jackson won the EC and popular vote, but Adams became president.

Jackson became president after Adams term ended.

Ah, right, right.

I'm referring to 1824's Adams vs Jackson. The rematch had Jackson winning comfortably.

For reference. ^

Yep. Pluralities don't count for anything either, only majorities. That, and the "fall back on the HoR" system seems really stupid.

I believe the logic was that the HoR is/was suppose to represent the people, and so when the people can't make a definitive choice, their representatives can.

It's the reason it goes to the HoR and not the Senate. 👆

Yes, and when it's controlled by, say, Republicans, I'm totally expecting them to nominate the Democratic candidate 😬

What happened in 1876 with Hayes was a bit less abominable.

LMAO

Edit: Aww it was just his coat....still Jackson looked pretty fly.

I saw that. Trump looked like Obama had just told him Santa isn't real. I guess he got a taste of what the reality of being president really is and didn't really like what he heard.

Or, you know, they just don't like each other. Of course you've yet to prove you know much about what a president is, let alone what they do in this country, so I can't say I'm surprised.

A typical Neph post, really.

Given how easily Trump gets baited on social media and his reported lack of skill at coping with stress during the campaign, I seriously wonder how he'll manage the stress of the real deal.

As depressed as I was by the outcome of the election (honestly the Republican supermajority makes a Trump presidency seem like a trivial issue by comparison), I'm not that butthurt about it. As long as Trump doesn't get us killed, I'll continue to have faith in myself, my loved ones, and the goodness of humanity, and move forwards with my life.

I think Trump'll be a shit president, but I hope to God I'm wrong, and I'll wait to see what happens. If it turns out he isn't as bad as I think, I'll freely admit it.

Honestly Trump might be the most moderate of his new administration.

Tbqh, it would be hilarious if he turns out to be good and all the people who flipped the **** out all end up like O.O

The Republicans don't have a supermajority in either the House or the Senate.

@Ant: well, it seems like you've no interest in actually debating, either that or you've received a brain tumor or something.

It's unimaginably ignorant to suggest that legal immigration is bad "for Americans" when it's not only responsible for the very existence of our country but also for us being a superpower (Manhattan project, NASA, Google, Silicon Valley, Intel, most nobel prize winners, etc.)

It's also brain damaged to use "it's the law" as an argument; by that logic you must support Obamacare and DAPA 100%, which you apparently don't, since they're both the law too. I made this point, and you conveniently ignored those implications.

And it's especially hilarious that you respond to us pointing out an appeal to motive fallacy by mocking our naming fallacies, as if you're some sort of jock on the schoolyard laughing at the nerds for using big words or something.

Face it: your support of Trump is based purely on your emotional sensibilities and utter ignorance for real life. You have no understanding of the effects his policies would have on climate change, immigration, etc. - you just read a bunch about email servers and dove right in. You're pretty hilarious - you oscillate between impressive intellect and mind bogging stupidity at an astounding rate.
