The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

Not to mention the fact that he literally was only able to do this when Starkiller lost his focus.

"Before you can reply, his men escort Juno onto your battleground. When he draws her in with the Force, your focus wavers and he seizes the opportunity. He grips you with the Force."

Or how about the fact that he's sending hordes of clones to fight Starkiller for the entirety of the fight? You disgust me.

Or how about the fact that Vader was holding back?

Your selective quoting disgusts me 🙂

Vader sucks.

Where was that mentioned?

The only thing I heard in terms of characters being restrained was Vader's claim that Juno was holding Starkiller back.

And, if that was the case, why'd he throw his lightsaber at Starkiller while the latter was unarmed (and ask the Dark Apprentice for backup in the event that Starkiller decided to kill him)?

In the book, and was confirmed by Witwer.

In fact, if that was the case, why'd he resist / try to kill Starkiller to begin with?

Wait; thought you were talking about TFU2. nvm.

He was testing him, trying to lure him back to the Dark Side. When it failed he went with Plan B, aka getting captured then wrecking house in the Rebel Base.

Just to kill him? He already had his "perfect" Dark Apprentice.

Nowhere does it state Vader was holding back. It said he was fighting cautiously/defensively having learned his lesson from that last duel. That's not mentioning the fact that Juno lay dying nearby allowing Vader to control the direction and pace of the entire fight.

All he had to do was wait Starkiller out until he ultimately capitulated so that Juno could be saved. Hell even if Juno died Starkiller had already sued up most of his force reserves so Vader could have probably just waited Starkiller out until the latter passed out from exhaustion.

What do you mean kill him? He didn't want to kill Starkiller or he would've been dead.

That's what he ordered the Dark Apprentice to do in the event Starkiller "fell."

You're trying to sound like getting captured without killing Starkiller was the ideal outcome.

Yes it does, and also confirmed by Witwer 🙂

Starkiller was also enraged yet driven back by Vader 🙂

He only states that Vader was "gaming" Starkiller at the beginning of the game and this is in reference to allowing him to escape.

IIrc Vader told the Dark Apprentive to kill Starkiller in case he wants to kill Vader, not if he fell to the dark side.

I said it was Plan B 😬

And what was Plan A?

Couldn't have been making him another apprentice. Considering he threw his saber at him while he was hanging on a metal wire, disarmed.

For the record, I attribute losing his weapons to begin with to his shitty-ass lightsaber skills.

No it doesn't. It states that Vader didn't want to kill him when he thought he had Starkiller at his mercy. A position Starkiller purposefully put himself in in an attempt to get Vader to lower his guard. A ploy that ultimately succeeded.

"Vader didn't want to kill him, but not out of mercy or sympathy for his lot. The Dark Lord had invested far too much time and energy in re-creating his former apprentice, and he wouldn't want to throw all that away. Not when he seemed on the verge of victory." - The Force Unleashed II.

The novel notes Vader was still going all out.

"Starkiller maintained his efforts to get to Juno, and Darth Vader did everything in his power to stop him. Neither would capitulate. Neither would be the first to break. Their wills were locked." - The Force Unleashed II.

No, he drove back Vader when enraged. Vader drove back Starkiller when Starkiller enraged him. They fought evenly for the rest of the fight with Vader keeping Starkiller away from Juno near the end before he enacted his ploy.

This is all part of the plan. "Yeah, yeah, you know, he caught me off guard once. I'll let him beat me this time so he takes me captive."

***

"But there was definitely moments where Starkiller faces off very cocky against Vader, maybe near the beginning of the game, and Vader *houses* him. And he says "how are you doing this?" And he's says "I'm Darth Vader."...

...that Vader had been gaming him, quite a bit."

***

Yeah, absolutely, I'll give you little tidbits. The story of 3 was going to be as I understand it, thematically the terror of Darth Vader, because, you know, Haden Blackman wasn't about to have you beat this guy two times in a row without making a very strong point at the end of the third one and throughout the third one. That, you know there is, there is a... you know, I shouldn't say too much in case this all happens...

Starkiller planned that as a ploy to get Vader to lower his guard. A ploy that succeeded.

"Then it occurred to him. An indefensible position was exactly what he needed.

He lunged. Darth Vader saw him coming and swiped with unbearable strength, sending Starkiller's left lightsaber flying in pieces. Starkiller lunged again, and his right lightsaber joined his left. He fell back, beaten, and stared up at his former Master.

"This is your last chance, " Vader said, standing over him with the unwavering tip of his lightsaber pointed directly at Starkiller's chest.

Starkiller stared up at the black mask, sure of two things. Vader didn't want to kill him, but not out of mercy or sympathy for his lot. The Dark Lord had invested far too much time and energy in re-creating his former apprentice, and he wouldn't want to throw all that away. Not when he seemed on the verge of victory.

Juno was dead or dying. Starkiller was disarmed and helpless.

Any rational being would at least consider Vader's offer.

The second thing Starkiller knew was: The best way to beat Darth Vader is to let him think he's won.

Thinking of Wedge Antilles, he said, "I make my own chances. "

With both hands he sent a wave of lightning into the sparking gash Juno had made in Vader's chest plate.

The Dark Lord staggered backward, transfixed by the unexpected retaliation. Starkiller leapt to his feet and followed him, keeping up the lightning attack and using telekinesis to rip Vader's lightsaber from his temporarily weakened fingers. Sheers of energy spread our across the wet rooftop. Smoke and steam rose up in a tortured spiral. The grating whine of Vader's respirator rook on a desperate edge.

He went down on one knee. Starkiller stood over him. Vader's lightsaber swept into his former apprentice's hand. The blade came to rest at his throat." - The Force Unleashed II.
