Probably. Without blackwashing I'm sure a lot of longtime fans, like my friend, wouldn't have boycotted the film.

Meh. I'm a white guy and i've been a fan of the dark tower since I was in high school. I could care less that they cast a black guy for Roland. Idris Elba is a great actor and I have no doubts he will do Roland justice.

My far bigger concern is that what should have been a series of 3hr epic films like LotR trilogy, somehow turned into an hour and a half short film.

Idris was the best part of the movie. Still, the fact that they can't be bothered getting the simplest details of the books right is insulting to longtime fans hoping for a faithful adaption.

They also promised sequels but I don't see how that could've happened even if the movie hadn't bombed. They destroyed the main threat to the tower in the first movie. Anything else springing up would be contrived.

Pretty much everybody I know who read the series was pissed at the blackwashing. The trailer's painting it out to be a generic action flick didn't help either.

The hell was with the last ten minutes of that movie? It's like the crew got bored and just dropped their shit and left before it was actually finished.

It made me mad because they promised sequels. How can you make a sequel to that? You just erased any viable threat.
