IMO films should stick to the established canon no matter what, basically. But boycotting it because they changed the main character to black seems a little much, especially considering that Idris Elba is apparently really good in the role.
I agree only if it's a fundamental part of the character or story.
Like Luke cage for example. If they made him a white guy that would be bs. Him being black is an integral part of his character. If they wanted to make him gay, that would be different. I could care less because that wouldn't change the essence of who Luke cage is. Luke has always been a minority looking out for the underprivileged. Make him white and he is no longer that anymore.
On the flip side u have red skul. U can't have him be a black dude before his face is transformed. Being a white Nazi is the core of his character.
Other examples would be Perry white and kingpin. Michael Clark Duncan played kingpin and that was no problem in my eyes. Being white isn't a core component of kingpins character. Being massive and physically intimidating are, and Duncan encapsulates that perfectly.
