Faux News was on. I think it was when Homer ran for office as the Safety Salamander?

I've never seen a single episode of The Simpsons.

I am sorry for you.

Hopefully one day you will see the light, and open your heart.

I will be praying for you.

the 10,000th post of this thread was "I have never seen an episode of the simpsons?"

I am going to cut myself now.

Check out this dude's page.

He's got a bunch of trailer music mixes and soundtracks (Requiem included.)

my computer no longer produces sound using the speakers-- it merely emits a (startlingly delocalized) BEEEEEP from the tower itself when a sound-event from the OS occurs. 🙁

Noooo! I missed it again!!!

Oh well, wait for the 20,000th then.

Yea its part of Gideon's SWR deal... but whatever.

MASS EFFECT

The launch trailer is possibly the most delicious thing I've seen in years.

I actually liked it. The prologue in particular. If you haven't written or planned how you're going to write the rest of the storyline I'd recommend keeping it as philosophically heavy as possible while maintaining a good pacing of events, and continue relating different philosophical ideas to the different characters and recent history.

It makes me hate homework and college.

I have about 12k words written and most of is fairly heavy in the philosophical bent. I plan in keeping a tight focus and not necessarily talking about every character in that era since I really don't see any need.

What do people see in Mass Effect's storyline out of curiosity? I'm open to the possibility that I'm just not seeing it, but there didn't appear to be anything especially great about it. The only thing that seperates it from any other generic Sci Fi epic based on my playthrough was the simple fact that you had some influence over the storyline, but is that even necessarily a good thing? It prevents the plot from having real artistry in terms of how events connect together in my opinion, because rather than events expanding into further events in accordance with the underlying vision of the storyteller, they're designed to accomodate the impulsive decision making of the general audience, and as such the storyline lacks a sort of underlying "destiny" as the great Hideo Kojima likes to put it. The events of the story do not occur in the way that they do because they were meant to, they occur in the way that they do simply because that's how the audience has chosen it to. Not a great example of how storytelling should be in my opinion.

Your extremely bias opinion.

Update your sound drivers. I wish you weren't so computer illiterate.

Well its a hard question to answer. On the face of it, it doesn't seem like a groundbraking thing. Its more of less 'aliens invading, stop them'. This isn't the important thing though, its more about how its presented and pulled off thats important. The beginning builds up the story by making the player ask questions and then expands to answer these questions tidbit by tidbit. We're also presented with a clear antagonist who first makes us hate him, then pity him. His actions are perfectly understandable and he gives a great feeling of a man who is just searching for the right thing to do. The game continues in this manner, adding layer upon layer of juicy plot as well as several self-contained subplots that drive the story forward. We're introduced to numerous characters with rich, varied personalities as well as immersed in fantastic dialogue.

Basically Mass Effect is a mediocre story told by a Master, which is what Bioware genuinely is.

In fact its not much different from the majority to JRPG plots, withe the player introduced to the characters and given a problem, which leads to a bigger problem, and again, and again. So really I would have thought you'd like it. Bias aside.

This essentially sums it up. The plot of Mass Effect is nothing special or deep, but its just told... so well. Its the characters that make it work. I mean I never did care about the plot in ME I, but I did care about the characters.

I think that may be my problem with JRPGs. I can count on one hand how many JRPG characters I actually cared about, even though some of the classic JRPGs have brilliant plots.

Yeah also near the end with Wrex where

Spoiler:
you had to kill him or convince him to calm down
I had really gotten to like his personality and his backstory. Ahh and then later when you had to choose
Spoiler:
who to sacrifice, I almost wanted to sacrifice myself because I didn't want either character to fall
sad times...

Yeah, with Wrex, I had to load a different save becuase I didn't have enough points to convince him. Very sad times...
