To avoid adding nitpickery right after your cool post:

The same can be said about every antagonist ever. Your standard plot is always propelled forward by the antagonists actions, and it is always the case that without them there would be no plot. Nothing unique about that.

I think you're confusing the claim: I agree that villains tend to be, by their very nature, an impetus for the plot. But Palpatine not only initiates actions, but maintains and ends many events through manipulation. He doesn't simply start the plot, he orchestrates it.

Again, nothing unique about that at all. The same coul easily be said about many other villians, such as, oh I don't know, The Joker for a random example.

The Encyclopedia Volume III (pg. 9) states that “so powerful in the Force was [Palpatine] that the very essence of the dark side ravaged his form,” which reaffirms the claim made by Darth Sidious in the Telos Holocron that “the more successful the dark sider, the more quickly that dark sider’s body decays” (The Essential Guide to the Force, pg. 177).

I find it interesting in relation to this that Nihilus' body was completely destroyed in under a decade.

Hmmmm?

I see only one Star Wars character in that list other than Kreia. Care to guess who it is? Seems unique to me.

This was a side effect of Nihilus's wholesale draining: "As Nihilus greedily consumes entire planets' life energy, the dark side macerates him even faster." -- Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide, pg. 160.

oooh, yeah, i macerated your mom even faster...

Is it 'Ysanne Isard, particularly in the comics. The Director of Imperial Intelligence, she served the Emperor until his death. After the Battle of Endor, Isard advised Grand Vizier Sate Pestage while plotting to make his position shaky enough that he made plans to abandon the Empire and flee to the Rebellion. In the same day, Isard had Pestage and the obstructive Imperial Ruling Council assassinated, leaving her Empress in all but name. A favored element in her plans involved capturing members of the Rebel Alliance, brainwashing them into becoming sleeper agents, and sending them back completely unaware to their superiors, awaiting the right moment to activate them'

?

Also by mentioning Kreia you shoot your own point in the foot, slow clap.

So as he gets more powerful he gets more corrupted? Interesting.

Edit: Are you adding to the Palpatine essay? You should get a mod to restructure it and sticky it or something.

N., simply being "manipulative" isn't quite enough of an evil C.V. to get one on level with Palpatine. Isard's machinations were relatively minor compared with those of Palpatine. Even compared with Kreia, Palpatine's "influence" -- the degree to which he is an author of the plot -- is probably unparalleled in the scope of SW canon. Hence the term "unique."

I'm not sure that Nihilus became "more powerful" after consuming worlds. Is there any evidence to say as much? My take was that he was simply trying to futilely satisfy his hunger.

I'm pretty much revamping it entirely. Went back, reread it, didn't like it. But I was way too lazy to do it until about a few weeks ago.

RB can't talk to mods. not that they ever come around here anyway...

Except you weren't talking about the extent of his actions, but rather the actions themselves (he drives the plot and sculpts it). This is not a unique trait. I'm not going to argue about who's the bigger bastard, but he is certainly not unique in being one.

Yes there is, go re-read the last half-dozen pages of the Nihilus thread.

Oh good, it really needs a revamp. Just awful.

Oh yeah, forgot about his retarded ban.

Maybe they'll over look it?

Me
With this in mind, Darth Sidious is the only character without whom the events of the films would not be possible—if Anakin is indeed the protagonist, Sidious is uniquely both character and author.

If you don't want to provide the evidence, that's fine. But I'm not doing your job for you, so I'm just going to disregard it until it's been shown to me.

The introduction of new (new to me, anyways) evidence and a better layout was desperately needed.

Spoiler:
RagingBoner has, in fact, never been banned. I'm aware of an individual by the name of Gideon who was tragically lost to you all, and I would wager that if he were to return, he'd be banned without a second thought.

well, i mean, if you start talking to mods, they might just run a sock check.

heehee.yes take those off before you get in bed with Kyle's mom, or you look like an idiot. she might not say anything, but no woman wants a good ****ing from a guy wearing nothing but socks.

My old lady doesn't complain.

But then, we have a no talking rule for her.

Well if you're just talking about the movies then thats fine, but don't try to pass Palpatine off as some event horizon in villianry.

When debating any issue, there is an implicit burden of proof on the person asserting a claim.

Granted, it's wikipedia, so I suppose they could have it wrong. You make the claim, you are reluctant to provide evidence, and I'm the lazy one for not doing it for you? That's certainly a unique perspective, but not really applicable here. Which is why I said: provide it or not, it's immaterial. I'm going to disregard it until such a time evidence has been presented to me. If it's a big deal to you, go fetch the proof.

Except we're not debating. 😐

You asked me a question in a social environment and I pointed you to the answer. Thats all there is to it.

Gideon is part of all of us.

He was part of your mom last night teehehehe

I don't think that was my mum. I was wondering why my grandad was so happy this morning. Mystery solved!

Then I suggest you drop it before it turns into a debate and I make you go fetch it for me anyways.

Cool. Though just to answer your original question he does get more powerful when he consumes death.

Spoiler:
Also his faster corruption obviously means that he's > Failatine.

Thats no Moon Vagina.
