I don't think you've thought about this very much.
Oh I have, and I hate this movie. Except for the craft used to get there. I don't think I've seen such a realistically designed spacecraft since 2001.

I know, and given how amazingly awesome that shit is, why people get upset over us taking it is beyond me. Screw the Na'vi and their world tree.
And yet Cameron still tries to portray it at as an oil/imperialism analogue.

[*]There is an opening for some pretty screwy science fiction in between the heavy handed political commentary. Did you notice that every person that was in close contact with the Na'vi became enamored with their culture, to the point of treason? There is a theory suggesting that the Na'vi were engineered by the planetary consciousness to seduce/ensnare the loyalties of the invaders and thus deflect the threat.[/list]
Or Cameron, being a good movie maker, knows how to manipulate the audience to sympathize with those he wants them to. Cute, blue, cat people taking the role of the underdogs against a classic corporate evil.

As a fan of the show, were you offended?
I certainly was. One of my favorite cartoons was ruined on the big screen.
