Team Tournament Information and Discussion Thread

"Round 1 of the draft will be up Tuesday around 2 PM. Your team will be able to pick 1 of your 3 characters. It can be the "play-all" character (the one either team member can debate for) or one of the inidividual ones, so I'd suggest picking out which you want to pick first with your partners."

He's slow and vulnerable to TP. And while teleportation can't be used as battlefield removal, I see nothing wrong with 'beating him' with regular powers by throwing him into the sun or something (presuming the battle's on Earth). So by all means, go ahead and pick him (unless there's widespread dissent). Might not be a bad late-rounder, but I honestly can't see him being much of a force. It would certainly introduce some new strategy elements into the fight.

😐

who ever thinks of getting him is crazy. You just pick him up and throw him, hes gone....pure brute in a herald level tourny?? pfffffffft

So Digi, have you decided on the whole "speedblitz" thing? I think it should be banned from the tourney because it's a cheap and too easy a way to debate.

Travel speed and reaction time are two very different things. As I understand it, speedblitz is someone who can, say, travel the cosmos, and using that speed to attack at nigh-light speeds. There's oodles of problems with this, as no one has ever really shown great reaction time or the ability to attack precisely when at these speeds (besides someone like Flash). Everyone else has to slow down to at least probably around Mach speed (or usually even less) if they actually want to hit someone. So yeah, if you want to try and use it, go ahead.

But A. Every team will probably have people capable of this....making it rather pointless.
B. It's highly questionable whether it would even work.

...on the other hand, reaction time in battle is totally different. H2H speed feats are more than acceptable to use as evidence in the context of a battle. Cosmic awareness is fine too, but it's hardly a catch-all. I've seen people with CA get punked plenty of times.

...so there. Does that clear things up?

Meh, pair him with a telepath and a decent support man, and I could see him doing some damage. But for my money, he's still too clunky to be much of an asset.

...

As for the speedblitz thing, my thoughts on that are that it's the stupidest debate tactic in the world. And every team will have speedblitz potential, so it'll probably negate itself.

Still, I'll probably just ban it since it's basically the powest form of debating the forums have (besides the jobber aura). Thoughts?

Maybe I'm alone in this, but perhaps having the draft at 2 p.m. during the week isn't the best possible option as some people have work and/or classes. And if both team-members are similarly committed, then that could be a serious problem. Now given the diversity of individuals on this forum and the fact that they are spread out among numerous time-zones will always present quite the logistical problem for selecting any time but maybe something could be done. 😬

I do what works for me. Trying to synch-up time zones and sh*t would be torture. Some won't make it on right away, but that's not a huge deal....you guys are spoiled by the sign-ups lasting 2 hours. We've had draft threads that take close to a week in the past.

If you have a decent draft strategy with solid 2nd options, you shouldn't have a problem.

We'll bump it back to about 5PM for this first round of the draft for those you doing the 9-5. It's Eastern US Time, by the way. If it works out, we'll continue in that time slot....if not, it'll just move again.

And fudge it.....ban on the light-speed speed blitz. I don't think it would be a huge problem, but if it becomes one it could give me migraines and become the 'holy sh*t, this is within the rules but crazy' for this tourney. I want a loophole-free environment for intelligent debating. Not yes/no wars to determine who has the best speedblitzer.

Normal attack speeds, as well as reaction time in battle is still perfectly acceptable to use as grounds for debate. Thus, Superman would still have a decided speed edge over Juggernaut or something similar.

So it's at 5 p.m. now? Thanks Digi. That really helps. I wasn't looking forward to telling my professor that the reason I was late on the second day of classes was because I had to be present for a comic book character draft. 😄 😉

cool!! 😄

Pretty sure they'd understand.

It's already Tuesday here...

If I am correct, 5 PM there is 0 AM here. Better log in earlier. 😄

Scoob, just for that I'll let you be in charge of the 3rd round of drafting if you want. 😉

eek2

hmmm since we are banning people that copy powers, does that include say Animal Man. I mean with his ability to copy any animal and stack it, he could theoretically just take Kryptos powers, and any other DC animals be they aliens or earth bound, or super powered (alien that could produce lighting) since everything is in connection to the red (and seeing how many super powered animals there are in DC is crazy. Illadelph looked it up once......theres ALOT)
