It is extremely embarrassing, that the very thing that you made fun of or doubted is the very thing that you are at the mercy of. You are helplessly at the mercy of something that you do not believe in. You are experiencing something that you don’t believe, accept, or want to believe in. How is one helplessly at the mercy of something one doesn't believe in? To my knowledge I am not experiencing anything but laughter at that comic.
Also, you see, I instantly feel all adversarial when a religious figure that stands for love starts getting used in the same sentence as "you are at the complete mercy of" or "tremble and fear"

God loves you! Jesus loves you! The Holy Spirit loves you! Yes, you who is reading this post. Just open your heart to Jesus. He wants to give you to live with Him in paradise forever. Jesus wants a personal relationship with you, yes even you. No matter what you have done God will forgive you.
