Were we ever?
But face it peeps. If anything kin of remains in popular culture from the PT it may be JarJar. From the OT it's lightsabres, Darth Vader, "No, I am your father.", Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3PO and several lines. From the PT there is no such memorable moment as movies can still make them. It's not exclusive to the 70s and 80s. POTC made such an impact, The Matrix did, LOTR did... it's all very possible, but the PT failed to deliver such an impact. Despite the fact that Lucas had no limitations in realising his vision. Personally, I think that's a missed opportunity at least.

Yeah, the PT made the lightsaber battles even cooler.
No music - definitely. George said he never wanted music with his duels (duels has an E, mind you, not an A, Dual means 2, not fighting) because the lightsabers sound was musical and he thought music would cheapen the fights.... my how he was right.
What you seem seem to still not be understanding, is that just because they jump around and do majorette twirls with their lightsabers, doesn't make them better. I prefer exactly 1 and half PT duels to the OT ones. Ani vs OB1 and the last half of TPM when OB1 comes bursting in at Maul. And that's ONLY because GL said that they were both trying to be the better sword fighter (in real life) and that carried over to film. They (Ewan and Ray) actually broke multiple prop sabers in the process. And really, I only like that one over ANH's duel.

HAHA, damn you nailed this part! I was actually grinning the entire time I was reading that. That's why I miss you around here so much.
I remember the good old days too. 🙂 Almost 4 years ago. All the fun, the anticipation of Episode 3, the role playing. Couldn't beat it. And...we share the same birthday. 💃
About the duels, gernally, I like the duels of the PT better, however, not all of them.
Take for example, Mace vs Palpatine, which I thought was arguably the worst and cheesiest duel of the 6 movies. I loved Revenge of the Sith, don't get me wrong, but that fight could have been alot more.
Think back to the duel between Luke and Vader in ESB. It wasn't very flashy or faced pace, yet the atmosphere...the darkness...they way Vader just dissapears and leaves Luke helplessly searching around for him. A soft windy ambience in the background. Then out of no where, Vader's red saber illuminates the air.
That duel says so many things. It shows the true power and tyranny of Vader. It shows that Luke is afraid, even though he says to Yoda he isn't. Not to mention the part where Luke and Vader's saber clashes are matching the music. Awesome stuff.

I think having no music with the duals worked in the OT becuase more emotion was behind those battles becuase it was between people with history and even father-son connections. The last part of the TPM lightsaber fight didn't have much music. I don't remember much in II also. But it was obvious in III, which I liked.
Oh well...whatever you like I guess. I mean after watching the PT movies at the theatre after the movie I was jumping around pretending I had a lightsaber and stuff, making sounds, etc. It was a lot of fun. I don't remember doing that after the OT. Of course I never saw them in the cinima though.
The only duals I didn't like much was the Samual L. Motherfu!@ing Jackson VS Palpatine and the Obi-Wan VS Dooku in ATOC.

That was something I never understood, why Obi-Wan could beat a guy wielding 4 sabers at a time, two sabers at a time, plus Anakin, but he couldn't beat an old geezer like Count Dooku. lolAh well...that's the great thing about movies, they are just movies.
I think it is because Obi-Wan just has a hard time against Dooku's fighting style.
