Promise rings don't mean much though...Just that you promise that if you're still together in a few years you'll get engaged.... to be fair, you don't really need a ring for that. As that's kind of a stage a couple generally comes to anyway.

I'm sure receiving a promise ring is wonderful, I'm not saying that it doesn't mean much for the wearer, or the person who gives it for that matter. I was referring more to the parents, It's probably not going to be a big deal to them; unless they share some negative feelings towards the partner of their child.
