whenever i hear people complain about the last shot, it's just because of the rat on the railing. c'mon people, dig a little deeper. the shot isn't just a rat...think about what's in the background and the implications thereof. the conclusion wasn't really covered at any point in the movie, so i fail to see how the shot was redundant and over the top.

"Oh, my god! Are you saying that some politicians are rats, too? Oh, my god! Oh, my god! I can't believe it! It's so extraordinary and fresh! Oh, my god!"
So, anyway...Yeah, it's still a redundant shot.
Woah this film really was amazing. It kept you entertained all the way through and I really was not expecting
Spoiler:
all of the main characters to die. I mean, when Costigan had Sullivan in the lift (elevator. I had to stay true to my Britishness lol) and then it opened and he just got shot it was just like icon5 And then Sullivan shot that other dude and then Sullivan got shot himself.. woah. Lol.
It had everything.. violence, sadness, comedy, drama, the lot. It is definitely the most enjoyable and entertaining film I have seen this year. It should definitely get a few Oscar nominations, especially for Best Film and Best Director, and any of the actors should get a nomination, they were all amazing. Leonardo DiCaprio was great, and Mark Wahlberg was just "woah" lol. But then everyone else was too.. Jack Nicholson was, well you know, himself and Matt Damon was also exceptionally good. And Alec Baldwin. And Martin Sheen. Man, there's jus too much good acting in this film!
It's #48 in the IMDb Top 250 films now. I'm glad it is, because it was film making at its finest. I didn't think I would like it this much. I wanted to see it and everything, but I thought maybe I wouldn't realise its greatness because it's one of those type of films that I thought I'd just like but maybe not see why people think it is such an amazing piece of film making. I can't explain what I mean, but I know what I mean so that's good enough lol. One person on the IMDb message boards was saying how they liked the film but they were going to rate it 1 just because it was getting too high in the Top 250. How stupid is that.. if they think a film should get 9 or 10 out of 10 then they obviously think it's a film that should be amongst the other films that have ratings like that.
yea thats the problem with those ratings.. i honestly dont see how any unbiased person could see the film as a 1 out of 10.. not everyone is gonna think its a 9 or a 10.. but giving it a 1 out of spite is fairly rediculous.
it has 304 votes at #1..
Its weighted average is actually up to 8.6 which buts it somewhere between #15 and #26 (those are all 8.6)
Its lowest ratings are coming from women over 30..
Yeah I don't get the weighted average thing. Because when it first came out didn't it have even higher than 8.6 but it was like number 100 and something. Is it something to do with because it's new or something? Well I don't have a clue.. but anyway you're not supposed to know how it works are you because that's the whole point of why they do a weighted average or something..
Yeah I mean, you can give films about 4 or 5 out of 10 or something if you don't like it but I never understand how people can gives films like this a 1. If I don't like a film I don't usually give it a 1 'cause I can understand that it's fairly good, it's just the fact that I don't like it myself because it's not my type of film. I know it's about opinions but if you're talking about how good the film actually is then it no way deserves a 1. Films such as.. ermm Little Man or something.. now you can give them 1 because it's just a ridiculous film (not that I've seen it but the trailer made me cringe).
Movies like this don't win Oscars anymore, and IMDB.com's ratings are worthless, and to be taken with a pitcher of salt. There are plenty of Scorsese asskissers out there, me excluded, given I think he's one of the most overrated one trick pony writers out there.
I'm going to see it tonight with some friends, however, just because it does look entertaining, albeit a little long.
Yea, i went to go watch it this past weekend but it was sold out, cool thing is, is that i live Boston, where the movie takes place.
I like how the departed gun logo has the downtown Boston buildings right on the barrel, i actually work in one of the buildings on the gun, lol: the Prudential the second tallest building here.
But yea the movie ought to be good with it's all star line up, Martin's a excellent director, i liked "Goodfellas" and "Gangs of New York" so I'm looking forward to seeing it as soon as i can.

I agree with the person who gave it 1 out of 10 sentiments. It's good movie, but it's definitely not one of the top 50 movies of all time. The original was superior anyway.

that makes no sense. If you think its good its not a 1 out of 10. You shouldnt lower your ratings because other people like it more than you and you want to counter them.. thats just petty.
Anyone not seen the original check Channel4 in the uk tonight

The Departed
I looked high and low for a thread on the movie, but couldn't find anything, so if there just so happens to be one somewhere, go ahead and merge. I watched "The Departed" last night and I was fairly unimpressed. There are many times where I may suggest that a movie is just "overhyped", given circulating fan buzz, but this one in my opinion is flat out overrated.
In typical Scorsese fashion, it's needlessly too long. A solid hour longer than the original movie it was based off of, a la Peter Jackson's "King Kong". Secondly, aside from Jack, the acting was just terrible, especially Donnie Wahlberg. It was so forced and unconvincing, and for a native Bostonian, even he didn't sound genuine. I also found fault in the "too many cooks spoil the broth" category. You can't load your movie up with all these "class" actors, and expect to have another "Goodfellas". Hard to pay attention to an already drawn out and confusing story when you're saying "Oh! He's in this, too? It's going to be great!"
It was well directed, I will give it that, but for the first 130 minutes, honestly, it was very bland and drawn out. The last 20?
Spoiler:Talk about a cop out ending, no pun intended. This vaguely resembled a "gangster" film. I've seen movies like this before that were 100 times more gripping, that had some genuine suspense and intrigue. It held my attention, moderately, and that's about as much as I can praise it. I know I'll have the unpopular opinion here, but I figured someone has to buck the system.
A sequence of head shots to knock off pretty much the entire police force?
