"Ultimate" Spider-Man Discussion Thread

No, it was all in his imagination. Apparently he never left the penthouse.

Should have guessed that since Shaw was driving a car at one point lol.

I'll have to re-read it. Oh, and a description from Marvel about USM #102

"The revelations continue as we learn the secrets of Ben Reilly! Peter Parker tries his best to evade capture by Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D., plus—the transformation of Mary Jane Watson—into what?! And just for good measure—the scarlet sicko, Carnage, goes on the rampage! Part 5 (of 7)"

Ben Reilly is involved. I'm near positive he has something to do with Trask.

Of course Ben is involved. We saw him take blood samples at the end of the Carnage arc.

But who is he working for I wonder?? 😉

Except Bendis said that Harry imagined all that. Just like that guy Shaw was just a figment of his imagination.

I thought Bendis only made it clear that Shaw was in Harry's head, guiding him.
That's what I thought.... I knew Shaw was a figment of Harrys mind that was tampered with when he was exposed to the OZ formula but I assumed that Bendis chose to play it out as a connection to the reapperance of some characters such as Doc Ock and /or eventually GG and HG's team up. I'll tell you how I think he should play that out later on but still.

Yeah alot of people were confused about that arc (Hobgoblin). Bendis thought he made it clear though.

This is why people don't like the Ultimate Spidey line. It's too... confusing. And everything is all screwy.

The only beef I would have with USM is that by the time I die of old age (touch wood) (I'm 18 now) Spidey would have just passed puberty.

Like I said before Marvel reps said something about him having a birthday rematch with a big fave.

I hope he gets to college some time soon. Hell, maybe he could skip senior year! That would make for an interesting plot. Pete finally begins to use his head after his birthday, both in his role as student and hero, and manages to by-pass senior year and go straight into ESU.

With a recommendation by Doc Connors or Reed Richards, of course.

Oh! He obtains the "Reed Richards Science Scholarship"!

Apart from the Hobgoblin stuff, I don't see what stories were very confusing.

Agreed.

Yeah, it's usually pretty straight forward. The Silver Sable arc was pretty confusing at first if you played the Ultimate Spider-Man video game (which kicked major ass).

My opinion? Bendis really needs to start making sure stories don't get ****ed up. My biggest gripe is at the end of the Carnage arc, Pete said "Spider-Man no more," but he didn't deal with that until the Sable arc or around there. He grieved in the "Breakfast Club" issue, but that's it.

I don't know, Bendis is really one of those writers where he can write a great story, but when he's low on ideas or how to carry the story, it shows.

Who do you think would be a better writer?

Mark Millar! 😄

I've always loved JMS's stories in Amazing, but I think Bendis is a good fit for USM. He just needs to pay more attention to his continuity.

But as I said, if I had to choose someone to replace Bendis, it would be JMS

You liked Sins Past? 😘

I didn't find Sins Past all that bad. I kinda think people hate it just for the sake that it's become a trend to hate it.

Perhaps you weren't much into the old Spider-Man comics, and therefore never grew to like Gwen as a character, thus not feeling an impact from her death. Perhaps also for this reason, you cannot see what a travesty her character and her character's death were done in the Sins Past arc. Really a bad idea, especially for a man like JMS who, for all intents and purposes, is indeed a good writer.

I find a lot of people who believe the "People don't like it only because it's a trend" have never even read a story involving Gwen, and certainly not her death. This might not be the case for you--just an observation I've made. 🙂

No, people hate it because it's a steaming turd of a story that bastardizes several characters, and completely ignores continuity.

As for the latest issue of USM, it was pretty good. Carnage was still a mindless killing machine with no personality. But the twist with MJ was very cool.

Nick Fury is such an ass.

We should go into an ASM forum to discuss this, but I really enjoyed the Sins Past storyline. I mean, sure it made Gwen seem worse than what she was originally, but it humanizes her character. She did very little wrong in the old comics, and this kind of brought her into a level of realism.
I like JMS, I like the stories he did with Romita Jr. since the two captured who Peter Parker is and what his life is like in the comics.
