Why can't there be Creation then Evolution? Too many people like to pick one or the other.

Because the story of creation in Christianity (and pretty much every religion) has man being created whole cloth, which contradicts evolution.

I didn't say it had to be a Christian Creation.

Which one?

There's more than one Christian Creations story? Those people...

My impression is that many people do: God created the universe with a Big Bang, which set the laws of physics -- and evolution -- in motion. Generally speaking, those who don't are either brow-beating atheists who see religion as the root of Mankind's ills, or Bible-thumping theists who interpret Scripture way too literally, to the detriment of common sense.

That is quite interesting I never had anyone say this to me before lol

Well, technically, I said it to Lord Lucien, but thanks for the nod. 😉

And even that story is not Christian nor Jewish but of those pesky pagan Sumerians. Tsk tsk tsk....

Well that really depends on how you want to interpret it...as Church Father Origen said in the third century "anyone who believes Genesis to be literal, is an idiot."

That sounds like the same set as the one defined by some Atheist's favourite "All Christians are idiots".

I'm really struggling to understand the meaning of that sentence.

It was just a stupid joke. I was saying in a roundabout way that Christians believe in Genesis literally.

I don't even believe that, I just wanted to say it.

Isn't that messed up, or what?

Indeed.

Do you believe Evolution to be true?

I don't really know much about it beyond the basics found in "evolution for dummies". However I guess I accept it on the authority of the Scientific Community.

So yes I do believe in Evolution.

[edit] Or rather, I accept evolution is a valid and probably the best explanation for the development of life on this planet that we have.

Well, evolution is undeniable. It doesn't refute the existance of god at all though. Problem lies in people who interpret religious texts as literal truth.

Also, it's not so much that we came from apes, rather that we are apes and we along with all other still existing apes descend from baseline, now extinct, apes.

So you are saying that if people say it is true then to you it is not true? How do you know that it is not true?God to me does exist and is the truth weather people belive it or not.But if you think there is a God then why do you deny it?

I do not believe in god and belief in it has nothing to with acceptance or not of creation myths as literal truths. I don't belive in them because a dozen different sciences, day to day expereince and common sense have easily disproven them.

It does like my sister she says she does not believe in God but I know she does she just will not admit it because she is rebeling right now againist anything to do with the church.
Also maybe your day to day common sense does believe but like my sister you choose not too.
