The 'emo' sterotype and discription is ridiculous

Everyone knows what the emo image is, so I wont go in to that.

I think it's ridiculous. Having teenage depression does not make you emo. I know people that wear tight, black pants, are suicidal and cut themselves and HATE emo music. They love bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica, Led Zepplin, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, etc. That does not make them emo.

It's stupid. I have yet to meet someone that is actually emo.

One of my friends got a new hair cut, he died it dark brown and got it parted with an angled fringe. One of our friends teased him for being emo. Having a hair style does not make him emo.

To me, emo is not a look, it's a music GENRE.

This whole "Emo people are whiney teenagers that listen to Simple Plan, wear black clothes, eye liner, ***** about how bad their lives are while cutting themselves" is such a ridiculous image.
I'm so tired of hearing about it.

Thats like saying someone who dresses like a goth isn't a goth or someone who dresses like a punk isn't a punk. Emo is more than just a genre of music, its gained a more broad meaning over time.

If you get a "emo" haircut and dress like an emo, then yes, you are infact an emo. You make a concious decision to look that way. As the principal at my old school used to say; "If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck and looks like a duck, then its a duck."

We have way too many emo related threads.

There is probably a thread about this... in both the OTF, the GDF, and the Music section... somewhere... I'd ask the search feature... or AC if worst comes to worst since he's been in the same threads since early summer last year.

Emo kids are spoiled rich kids pretending to be goths, and they come off looking like preps in black. Which is what wmo is.

I have seen many Emo's fitting the stereotypes(cutting themselves, I dunno) hell, even a couple of my friends consider themselves Emo, the Sterotype exists

The only thing worse than the mislabelled "emo" kid, are those who think such a thing exists and completely get the term backward.

Nobody is an "emo". That's like calling somebody a "rock" or a "metal". You're stupid if you do it.

So very not true. I see it as people don't exactly get to choose what songs they do and do not like, it just comes to them naturally; their music taste. That's like saying if someone hears an "emo" song come on the radio and they listen to it and really dig it, later to find out that it's an emo song, that they should automatically go and start cutting themselves because they liked an "emo" song. That's lame.

Also, before this goes any further: Emo has nothing to do with cutting.

Metal fans cut, rock fans cut, even people who don't listen to music cut. It's a medical issue, nothing to do with emo.

Funny, I wish more people with your incorrect and inexcusable attitude would take flight off the tallest building, as it'd make the world a better place.

Firstly calling them "emos" is wrong, in ways I've pointed out too often to count. Secondly, cutters cut themselves and themselves alone, what business is it of yours? Why wish death upon them because they choose to harm themselves? They're not hurting you, but you choose to -- ironically -- become one of the many sheep to label them.

Such an idiotic comment.

The irony is, I hate the stereotype of people who go around saying:

"Oh my god! I hate emos, they cut themselves and are pussies who wine and wear tight pants, rich kids." etc.

To paraphrase Butters from South Park: I'd rather be a whining little pussy than an oppressive, abusive stereotype follower.

True, not all emo kids cut themselves but they're still annoying as hell.

And people need to remember not to mix up their stereotypes. Punks wear tight pants too and plenty of goths have the long black hair thing going.

So make sure they're wearing a My Chemical Romance shirt before you throw rocks at them.
