To be fair though the Pistons were visibly fatigued, one thing to keep in mind is that the Pistons shot badly and still only lost by single digits but if the Heat shot that badly we would be looking at a blowout.
Shaq had a nice game, i think its actually easier for him to play against Ben because he doesnt flop like the Bulls and Nets big men. Shaq can take his time a get the shot he wants, but as the series goes on i dont expect him to be as consistent. He'd had pretty much a weeks rest remember.
Wade looked good and got to the rim at will, he does have a lightning first step but the Pistons team D was woeful. I expect them to collapse the paint more in game 2 and make Miami beat them from the outside. One thing Wade should work on in the offseason is a mid range game off the dribble, if he gets the pull up jumper down like Kobe and Rip he will be ridiculous. On a side note Wade has said he wants to spend some time with Kobe in the offseason working on his defense - smart man.
I still think the Pistons have the advantage in the Billups / J-Will and Sheed / Walker matchups, Sheed was invisible and Billups wasnt aggressive enough. The Heat actually looked alot better defensively when Mourning was in the game, you could see that Detroits perimeter player were hesitant to drive the lane when he was in the paint.
I expect the Pistons to come out with alot more energy in game 2, the Heat have made it a much more exciting series with that win and now the Pistons have no choice but to turn it up a notch.

Yeah if the Heat shoot horribly it is a blow out. But if Wade wasn't in foul trouble, it would have been a blowout too.

I don't think Wade's mid range game is bad really. It's not Rip's, but it's good enough where defenders have to respect it which allows him drive to the basket with ease. His only weakness is his 3 point shot.
I think the Heat would be wise to bring in Zo for the last six minutes of the game instead of Shaq. They are a much better defensive team with Zo and it wouldn't hurt them all that much offensively since Shaq gets worse as the game goes on and Wade usually has the ball at the end of games anyway.
I've never understood why Detroit doesn't double down on Shaq in the first half. For most of his career and especially these last two years, Shaq has played way better in the first two quarters than in the third and fourth. He has more quickness, finesse, power etc. Once the second half starts he's much more guardable, since he has to rely one hand jumper, as his quickness to get past people is gone. If you take away Shaq's surge at the start he'll not do much there after.

^^^I agree, Wade has a good midrange jumper, i think he should work on his 3 ball more than his midrange shot.....1st half is almost over is Phoenix is up by 2, i like the way there playing....they controlled most the tempo in the 1st half............I've noticed alot of people and so-called experts are already writing off Detroit, they jump on and off there bangwagon so much it makes me sick 😘

I wouldn't call Morrison an excellent shooter, I agree his game is better all around, he can go inside and out, but when it comes to shooting the ball, Reddick has him beat hands down...I never heard of that Bargnani, he might be good he might not, Kwame Brown was also compared to Shaq, and we all know how that worked

Im not saying its bad or non existent but i've seen a few Heat games this year where he has picked up offensive fouls because he tries to take it all the way instead of pulling up. He is one of the best at getting to the rim but as Shaq becomes more ineffective (im talking next year and beyond) teams will gear up to stop him the same way they do with Kobe and the lane will be alot more congested. I've seen Wade knock down the mid range shot pretty well but if he could add a pull up the way MJ, Kobe, T-Mac and even Carter have he would be deadly. At the moment its kind of an afterthought and comes off a lazy dribble but imagine seeing him coming at you full speed like when he goes to the rack and then stopping on a dime and draining the jumper. 😈

Oh well, we lost but it was an exciting game. This is gonna be a long series so no despair just yet. That call at the end of the game against Harris was Bullshit!! That was a real momentum turner. There were a couple of other bad calls too that went against the Mavs, the charge that was called on Stackhouse in the 2nd qtr and the charge that wasn't called on Nash against Devin.
All that being said the Mavs still should've pulled it out in the end. I don't understand why Avery didn't go with defense down the stretch. He should've brought Damp back in the game and sat Van Horn. If Damp would've been gaurding the paint there at the end I don't think Diaw would've been able to make that shot.
I still don't understand why teams continue to play at the Suns pace, why don't they post up and pound it inside. It's ridiculous man, I just don't understand it, with all the size the Mavs have they could just pound it inside and take it to the whole at will and the Suns can't really stop them but instead they fall in love with the jump shot, that plays right into the Suns hands.

Yeah, I can see that. I also think they could need an excellent 3 point shooter to take away defenses from Bosh.
But, I wouldnt be surpraised at all if Raptors trade down or trade for an all star type player. If I had to chose, I think that will happen. If not, either Aldrige or the Italian guy, but an strong possiblity is Marcus Williams.
Rza, thats been one of the most puzzling things in the playoffs for me. The Suns have such an obvious weakness inside but teams only attack them down there for small stretches of the game. When you have skilled post players like Brand and Dirk (im not ready to put Kwame's name in there yet lol) you have to work inside out. They will either get fouled, have an easy look or create a wide open shot. To the Suns credit they have made minor adjustments each series to cover their weakness a bit, but it still shouldnt stop you at least trying to get the ball down low. The Suns tend to send a double on the dribble not the catch so that can make things a bit difficult but Dirk is a good passer so he should be able to create some good looks for his teammates. We will see.
I think the major adjustment Dallas has to make is make it a more halfcourt game. If you're scoring in the 110 or 120 you're playing into Phoenix's hand. Out of the three teams Phoenix faced, the Lakers slowed it down the best and consequently had a 3-1 lead at one time. The Lakers were also the least talented out of Phoenix's playoff opponents. This especially needs to happen when the series goes back to Phoenix if Dallas truly wants to win this series.
Awesome game, loved the outcome, i'm hoping Bell's injury isn't too serious....I knew Dallas would try and outgun phoenix, them and there Pride, Dallas has a good defense, but Phoenix's pick n roll is almost unstoppable at times, and you don't want to turn it into a shootout, when Phoenix has the pick n roll workin Dallas has to pick their poison, you want to have nash to go for 27 and 16 with the pick n roll, or have marion go for 30+ when Phoenix runs , Avery is good coach tho, i'm sure he'll make the needed adjustments for game 2
I couldn't agree more with Koolz and Doc, I still don't understand how they beat the Clippers. I mean it was obvious that they had no answer for Brand and yet the Clippers just didn't seem to take full advantage of that. At least the Lakers had the right idea as far as trying to exploit the matchups inside with Odom and Kwame and control the pace by slowing it down but it seems like other teams are wanting to get into a shootout with them and that's not the way to win with them. I agree that they should work inside first and then swing it to the open man, get timely open jump shots don't force things, it seems so simple I just don't get it.
One more thing, if Avery and the rest of the Mavs coaching staff have no confidence going inside to Damp against the Suns down the stretch with a lead then I think they should really think about trading him in the offseason. He's getting paid way too much money to just rebound and block shots every now and then, it's not like he's playing like a monster inside as far as rebounding, if anything Dirk is the one that's doing most of that, except for the block shots, I don't think I've ever seen Dirk block a shot. That's a shame and that's what still keeps Dirk as well as other players from being complete players IMO. The thing that made Jordan so great is that not only could he score but he played defense too, he would even block centers for god's sake.
One more thing is Diop hurt? How come he didn't play at all in this game?
