Anyways, is it any surpraise they lost?
Also, can you really believe a team with James, Kobe, McGrady and Carter could win the championship?

kobe, mcgrady, and carter arnt even on the roster for this turnament.

first off, even though its composed of nba players, usa basketball(olympics) has nothing to do with the NBA.
Second...there is always gonna be US basketball, not just this year, but next and then there is the olympics, but this is just where you discuss all of that, maybe a mod needs to change the title to olympic basketball or something
third...how is this one of the best us teams ever...they lost. talent wise maybe but you cant say there one of the best if they didnt win the gold. you sayin there one of the best is actually an insult to the US since they lost

Are you stupid? I said they are one of the best teams ever, EVEN THOUGH IT ENDED IN DISAPPOINTMENT. They had the full potential to win it all. the way they brutally beat almost every team, and they were leading by 12 in the 2nd quarter against Greece when they relaxed and said to themselves, "we'll win this easily." and just because they lost doesnt mean they were worse than before, this a SINGLE ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT. if the US could retry this game, hell they'd win it probably by a blowout. For example, if the spurs are 51 and 31 one year without losing to the charlotte bobcats at all, but are 61 and 21 the next year, while losing to the bobcats once, would you say the spurs were better in the first year? that's pretty much your logic from what you said. In a SINGLE ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT even if you dont get gold one year, it doesnt mean that team was worse than the team that did get gold. So, if Spain wins it, are you saying that Spain is better than the US? Re-think before you write something next time.

Second, I just said that we are talking about USA basketball in the other thread, so you dont need to bring this up. it wont be another 2 years until team USA plays in the olympics, so its pointless to have a separate thread for this. its like having a pre-season thread, a regular season thread, and a playoff thread, and a finals thread, when you can discuss that all in the NBA thread. Get it?

international competition has also gotten to a MUCH higher level in recent years.

how the f*ck can you be one of the best teams ever and lose, ok you can be one of the best teams ever not to win...but thats it. AND frankly my deer i dont give a rats flat white ass if you brought this up in the nba thread, you can stop mentionin that right now because it doesnt even belong in there. potential??? are you kiddin me?? the rest of america doesnt care about potential, they care about winning and they didnt do that, if spain wins it yeah there the best team, thats what the tournament is for, to find who is the best team, a damn monkey could figure out if a team won the championship there the best team. and pretty much what you're sayin is the US needs a double elimination tournament to win 🤣 🤣

are you saying that you're a monkey then? did you pay attention to ANYTHING i wrote? I'll make it more simple for you since you seem to be lost: lets say that the NBA playoffs consisted of 1 game series, instead of 7. and lets say the toronto raptors made the playoffs and by fluke, beat the spurs, would you say the raptors are better than the spurs? not neccessarily, because maybe the spurs had a very off night. its possible for the raptors to beat the spurs in 1 game, because it happens sometimes. but its nearly impossible for the raptors to beat the spurs in a best of 7 series, because the spurs are factually better. even if the raptors would beat them in the 1st game, the spurs would re-group and eventually come back and win the series. So, a 7 game series makes sure that the BEST team wins, because the worse team cannot win game after game after game against a better opponent. but in a 1 game series, its anybody's win, because its a matter of who plays better THAT NIGHT, not who's better overall. In this case, the US lost in 1 game, and they're out. if it was a 7 game series, the US would definately beat Greece and win the whole thing. BTW, the US only lost by 6 points, thats nothing. you cant say that Greece is better by beating the US in ONE GAME by 6 POINTS.

if you still cant get what im saying, then maybe you are a monkey, and if thats the case, i dont feel like arguing anymore. i dont argue with people who cant understand the easiest things.

PAY ATTENTION: THIS IS NOT THE NBA. GREECE DOES NOT PLAY IN THE NBA. this is how the world championships, Olympics, have been. when the us won you werent sayin, o maybe if they played in a 7 game series the other team would have won. NO. thats not the way it works. thats why you dont post this in the nba thread..its clearly not nba rules and it has nothin to do with the nba. You actin like they didnt know it was a single elimination, they knew and they were beaten by a better team

You dont get it. Im saying that in 1 game, practically any team, with a little luck, can win. but in a 7 game series, usually the better team wins. Do you get that part?

The next part: its not that the US didnt know that it was single elimination, its that the US relaxed for a little while, and thats when Greece kicked it to overdrive and beat them by, ONCE AGAIN, 6 freakin points. AGAIN, if the raptors beat the spurs by 6 points in a single elimination game, would you say that the raptors are better? Before you say anymore nonsense, answer that question for me.

nothing to do with the NBA? hello, are you awake? we are talking about USA basketball, in the perspective of the USA. ok, where do the USA basketball members all come from? The NBA. and you're saying it has nothing to do with the NBA. Please, work with me here!

Indeed. Still no excuse as to why the US doesn't win it though.

i would have liked to see duncan KG and Kidd in there along with the other 3 i mentioned before. i didnt understand why iverson didnt get an invite, he plays defense...and hes a vet and i dont even like iverson, i just like USA basketball and i think Jerry messed up big time in not inviting him. There is still the possibilty of gettin on the roster before the Olympics so there is still time. I truly just want to see tmac and kobe join up, that would be a crazy roster if they did, and you know kobe, he doesnt like losing, that along wit a lot of other stuff is why they originally were building this team around kobe

Iverson refused to go this year, its not that he didnt get invited. All of those guy you mentioned didnt really want to go. and they had those players in previous years, but they didnt win. so i guess by your logic, they werent the best.

So, your not respondng to me, huh? answer my 1 question: if the raptors beat the spurs by 6 in a single elimination game, would you say the raptors are better than the spurs?

iverson wasnt invited hers an article http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/13979032.htm

KG wasnt on team in '04 http://www.insidehoops.com/olympics.shtml

tmac evidently still has secuirty concerns, vince carter once again just flat out refused

kobe still has a contract so hes gonna be there in '05 and '06 😄 😄 😄

Iverson didnt have the commitment that the other players like LeBron, Wade, and Carmelo did. thats because hes already been in the USA olympics. anyway, it said that he wasnt invited in the 2008 olympics, it never said anything about this year. dont you even consider that playing for USA basketball is a very tough commitment. iverson works all nba season, and the summer is his only real time to spend with his kids. and all you can say is, "i want all the superstars like kobe, KG, and iverson to play in every USA tournamnet." if you havent noticed, the players have to travel to the OTHERSIDE OF THE WORLD to play in these games. you cant say that iverson just wasnt invited. it even said that he wanted to spend time with his kids, which is by all means, understandable. hey, if you had only a couple of months to even see your children, wouldnt you want to spend your summer relaxing with them? instead of traveling to china, korea, and japan, and making it more difficult and strenuous for yourself? iverson may not have said, "i refuse to go," but deep down, he wants to spend some time with his family. dont you get it?

im not bashing iverson for comin out and sayin he didnt want to come because he wants to spend more time with his kids, im just simply sayin the team would be better if iverson was on it and who knows, maybe if the guy had actually received an invite he would have accpeted it. and the team would be better because if it.

the problem with iverson is that he is not a pure point guard, he is more of a shooting guard, but at the same time, hes too short for a shooting guard. so, while in philly, where hes basically the only decent guard, he can thrive in the point guard position, but with a team like the nets that already has a good point guard, hes going to have problems. and iverson's not going to accept a bench role. he has to start. so with team USA, iverson's not such a great fit. dont get me wrong, i love iverson, and hes one of the best in the league individually, but hes too big of a puzzle piece to fit in.

if you're not gonna answer my initial question, could you at least tell me whether you're going to answer it or not. dont ignore it.

I know. I was commettin on the guys post saying that the reason they lost is because they didnt have T-mac, Carter and Kobe.

But really, this isnt the only sport in the world where superstars have played on their respective countries and lost.

Just this year, the Canadian hockey team didnt even get a medel, even though they had one of the best rosters.

Its a team sport, shit happens, teams lose. I always figured it would be better to take a team like Detriot to the Worlds, (obviously take out a few non US players and replace them with a player that is similiar in talents) than fill it up with superstars.

Kobe, Carter, Iverson, Garnett and McGrady would of not won the championship. The talent that US had was the best, even without the big guys, especially to beat Greece.

GO MONARCHS!!!🥷

...the NBA season needs to start soon, really soon, as in right now. 😖

Well, I hate to say I told you so, but....

The exact same problems I had been noticing about the US team reared it's ugly head in that game against Greece. No consistent outside shooting, bad perimeter defense and a lack of veteran leadership is what cost them the win. An abysmal 9 of 28 three-pointers while converting a woeful 59% (20 of 34) from the free throw line. In contrast Greece made all their free throws and most of their outside shots. I really don't think Kobe's gonna be the answer for this team once he joins, they really need to think about adding some consistent perimeter shooters, a couple of staunch perimeter defenders and role players who don't mind doing a lot of the dirty work and some type of veteran leadership needs to be present if they hope to do anything in '08. It's amazing that the US team has yet to win on the International stage since '94 and they got beat by the 8th ranked FIBA team. Now the most they can hope for is a bronze by beating Argentina (3 Fiba ranking) and that's not gonna be easy.

Btw, does anyone think they should make a Fiba video game? I think it would be pretty cool. You get to play with your favorite countries like in Fifa WC and you get to play with Fiba rules, like legal goal-tending and stuff. I would buy it.

merging with the nba thread for reasons stated by you guyz.

you are absolutely correct, and that was exactly what i was trying to explain to LordEvolution.

Oh yeah, i have to mention it everyday:

NBA season starts in 60 days.

lol? are you kiddin me? so the six best american players in the NBA would not have won the championship???? I also did mention duncan. since recs is so obsessed with the fact tht this has to do with the nba then lets compare these players. Paul, James, Melo, Wade= 1 champion, 1 rookie, James is great but no title, same with melo, but it still lacks experience.
Then on the other hand we have Kidd,Kobe, Mcgrady,KG, Iverson, Duncan= 6 championships, 7 scoring titles, 4 MVP's, experience level is through the roof and jkidd IMO is the best all around point guard in the league. So yeah they definetely would have won the championship. This team is far better than the one we have right now, i can assure that if we had this team every year there wouldnt be any chance of losing
