So who's joined so far?
Myth?
Wuta?
Koolz?
Royke?
Lord Evo?
Recspecs?
Samsidian?
Doc?
Doom?
Anybody else?
Yo Doom, I notice it's set to Head to Head and only 10 teams but that's different then last year. Are you gonna change it up before the season starts? I like the rotisserie style from last year better and if 2 more people wanna join we could have 12 instead of 10.
First, I'm glad to see you finally sign up Rza. With you, royke and Strangelove we will have a very competitive league.
On to your questions:
As of right now I know it's you, I, Strangelove, royke and RecSpecs. One is my best friend who signed up here but doesn't post. I don't know who the other person is yet.
I know kool feels the same way as Myth. They feel they both don't have the time to devote to playing. I understand, but man I wish they would sign up. Especially kool since he's a pal and he was there our first year.
It's set up for 10, but if we get twelve I wouldn't mind changing that. As of right now we only have 7 players. Last year only 4 or 5 so I wasn't sure how many people would sign up. If you can round them up RZA let me know and I'll change it. At least one more player.
About the H2H. For the past two years we've had the league it started out as H2H. Unfortunately we haven't had enough players to do it so I had to change it to roto. H2H was always my first choice, this year is no different. When it comes to stuff like fantasy baseball I think roto is the way to go... but as far as basketball goes for me it's H2H and it's a no brainer. For many reasons, but as far as this league goes my main reason is so that towards the end of the season people wont pack it in and stop playing. If we're one-two months left into the season the bottoms teams have no chance whatsoever of making it to the top. Once they're at or near the bottom they're done with so naturally they give up. With H2H everybody has a chance all the way to the end because of the playoff format. In roto there are no playoffs. With H2H the top 6 teams go into the playoffs and everybody has a chance to compete for the title. That's the most exciting part of fantasy basketball. The fourth, fifth, sixth seed have a chance to win, when in roto they would have already given up.
To me it's a no brainer.
Hopefully we can get some more players. Maybe I'll start a separate thread here just for the league and hopefully more people will sign up.
Yea, I don't know why someone would have to spend so much time playing fantasy basketball.
It usually takes me 5 minutes and one day out of the week to set my starters. If I'm lazy I'll just set them for the month. Sometimes a player gets injured and you have the sub them for another player (if you want), but that's about it.
As for me I like to use some strategy. If I'm playing a team one week that will most likely beat me in rebounds I'll start all the players I know who will rebound. Stuff like that, but it shouldn't interfere with school or work.
Yeah, I agree with everyone who says you can make time. I mean I never have time for anything but as Doom mentioned it gives you options to set up your team weeks, months even the whole season in advance. Once you draft your players, unless they get injured you can pretty much cruise from there. Of course you do have to somewhat stay up on things but if you're a fan you'll be doing that anyway. It does take more time then football of course because there's more games it's not just a once a week thing but I really don't think it's that bad. It's like a hobby, like everything you do in life it's gonna require a little bit of time at least but I understand if some people just can't do it.
As far as the roto vs head-to-head setup. I realize your points about how it makes it more competitive towards the end of the season but at the same time I think it kinda defeats the purpose of having such a strong regular season and then just leaving it up to chance in the playoffs, not to mention that you would have to really place an emphasis on acquiring players who will most likely end up going to the post-season because what happens if you're stuck with players who performed really good during the regular season but the rest of the team just wasn't good enough to make it to the playoffs? I think it really limits your options. Also, I'm not sure if I'm willing to go that far into the season, I think I would just like to kick back and enjoy the playoffs at that point.
I dunno I think I will need to read more about it and see what the differences are and then see which one I prefer and then decide if I want to play with that format or not. Personally, I think the most competitive set up would be having a roto 12 man league because this would really place an emphasis on acquiring sleeper talent. This is what I competed in last year in a public league and it was very competitive and fun. I guess I was hoping we could recreate that here with some of our 12 regulars.

About the H2H vs Roto:
1) The 1 seed is still the odds on favorite to win.
2) The 1 & 2 seeds get a bye the first week of the playoffs so they get an advantage.
3) The playoffs start the last 3 weeks of the regular season. They don't start when the actual NBA playoffs do so every player can still play.
4) Wouldn't it be boring if the team with the best record in the regular season were crowned the champs in the NBA? Would it be fun to watch if there were no playoffs?
What would be the fun in that?
I've been playing H2H since 2001 and it's far more competitive than roto. I think once you give it a try you will see that.
Your biggest concern seems to be that you think the fantasy playoffs start when the NBA playoffs do. They don't, so there's no need to stress. It's really the best way to play. Give it a chance at least.
Oh and about the "sleeper talent", why isn't it able to be used in H2H? It absolutely is, but I'm curious as to why you think it doesn't apply.
Also, you make it seem as if H2H isn't exciting and competitive. From having played both the past 6 years I can tell you for sure it's fun and competitive... and not only that, but more exciting and more competitive than roto. How will you know if you never give H2H a chance?
Relax dude, like I said I'm not sure. I really don't know anything about it. Still trying to find out some info on it. Pt system, how it scored, what players you're limited too in the post season etc.
This is really the best time for me right now to read up on all the fantasy stuff and get caught up with all the NBA news in general, with all the fires down here there's really not much else to do right now.

Did you read what I wrote?
I am relaxed, I was just answering your questions about H2H. Like I was saying the fantasy playoffs don't begin when the actual NBA playoffs do so every player is still available. Even the ones on bad teams.
