Oh, and I know it is lame, but for some reason things like that don't seem to add value to cards, it is simply how rare they are. It would be cool if things like that effected value more. Like a Kobe from this last year should be worth more because it was his MVP year, but unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

That wouldn't really make any sense though.

No it wouldn't, but it would be cool if accomplishments of a given year effected the value of cards from that year. But ultimately, it is how rare they are and that makes sense.

I'm still waiting on this "major change" that Joe Dumars promised me. Cause if it was Kwame Brown, I'm going to say he's officially out of ideas.

so.... oklahoma city thunder it is.

whats everyones thoughts on the name? seems theres several links as to why, but i just feel its a bit cheesy.

I hate it. We already have NBA.com not sure how to deal with the name when used plurally: "Thunder are ready to roar." That sounds terrible. The logo looks like a WNBA team logo. And their reasoning for choosing the colors they did is retarded. The choice of blue is ok because that is the color of their state flag, but orange and yellow were chosen because of the beautify colors in the sky during an "Oklahoma sunset." Did they forget what their team name is? I don't hear "Thunder" and instantly start thinking of beautiful sunsets.

it does tie up some of the olklhoma things, theres a regiment there called the thunderbirds, and i read there were a couple of other links too... but i mean, how much money were guys paid to come up with that for a name? and yes, that is a horrible logo. but with a name like thunder you cant expect too much.

Unknown at this point about that name.

Wow, 11 days without a post in the NBA discussion thread. That is the longest I've seen it go in my 5 years here.

Gilbert Arenas is out at least a month due to knee surgery..

last couple of weeks teh offseason stuffs been quiet....

looking forward to seeing a healthy jermaine o'neal playing for teh raps, thats a nice couple of bigs we got with him and bosh, could be a good year for us.

cant think of any other big trades or signings...

I'm curious to see if the Blazers pick up Shaun Livingston.

i'm excited to see how oden plays. there was a lot of hype last year then the injury hit, seriously looking forward to seeing this guy play.

which team do people think may surprise people this year? theres normally one or two.

In the Portland area the Oden hype is started up again. We're starting to get reports about him every other day that are telling us that he will be better this first year than most expect. Some reports even say he is more explosive than he was before his surgery.

Surprises:
I think Thunder will improve more than most expect (though still not close to playoffs)
Memphis as well.
I also think Miami will be back in the playoffs, but I'm not sure if that makes them a surprise since they'll suddenly have a healthy Wade and Marion while adding Beasley.

Why?

Because they have invited him to work out for them and they have been reviewing his medical records. Livinston has now narrowed his choice down to Portland, Minny, and Miami. Signing him is a low risk, high reward move.

OK, well I hope he works out well for Portland..

Hopefully he can stay healthy and have a good year

had to think who you mean twhen you mentioned the thunder... thats gonna be a weird one. think durant will have improved much? i think th ebalzers will be a team to watch out for, maybe not the playoffs, but certainly not too far away.

i'm hoping the raps gel well as a team with oneal, its a good talented frontcourt we have now, should scare a few teams at least!

As long as O'Neill doesn't get injured like he always does, which is pretty much impossible, then the Raptors could potentially be the 4th or 5th best team in the East.

The Rockets re-signed Carlos Landry to a 3-year, $9 million contract, which matched Charlotte's offer for him. Landry was a pretty explosive force last year as a rookie and also helped the Rockets with his size. Should be interesting to see how he develops.

Atlantic division will be stacked with the Celtics, Raptors, and Sixers. I think the Sixers will be a pretty damn good team with Brand.
