Detroit gives away one old fart for another..AI can still play, but I don't see how they will co exist..
Also does this move make either team title material??
It seems like a decent plan for the Pistons to me. They weren't winning it all this year anyway, so might as well see if Iverson's heart can lead them. Iverson's best days were on a team that could play defense. Pistons can play some good defense, and though Iverson isn't quite what he use to be back in 2001, these Pistons squad overall is better (at least offensively) than that 76er team. Now, I do not expect them to win it all, but they weren't winning anyway, so might as well take this chance. The real beauty of this trade for Detroit is that Iverson has like $20M coming off the books at the end of the season. They can either take that $20M, or if Iverson is a decent fit, maybe convince him to take $10M in the following seasons and use the extra $10M on a new free agent or 2. This could really help them retool for the future.
Pretty much what Myth said, this is a smart move by Dumars who probably realised that it might be time to rebuild. The Pistons are a very good team but i dont think they would get past either Boston or the Cavs. Remember this is the last year of Sheeds contract as well so you have potentially 30mill coming off the books next season if they let both of them walk. That is some serious cash to look at adding a quality young player looking for a big payday to go with the solid young players they have in Stuckey, Maxiel, Afflalo and Johnson. Add to that Rip and Prince and you can see that Dumars is looking to the future while rolling the dice with AI having an impact while he is there.
Now for Denver side of things it makes sense to, Billups is a master at running the offense and hitting big shots when needed. He is still a good defender and gives the Nuggets some much needed playoff experience. Billups, Smith, Melo, Martin and Nene is not a bad line up and the most importantly they compliment each others skills better. Good trade for both teams imo.

"The Warriors did not pick up Williams' 2009-10 option, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. (Oct 31)"
This is the point guard I wanted in the draft over Farmar. I still want him over Farmar. Hopefully we can pick him in the offseason, to either be the backup or starter since Fish is likely to retire after this years finals win.
Not only is it a good trade for the Pistons(and Denver) but if this writer's theory is right, Detroit is going to be back ontop in 2010 with a vengence http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-dumarslebron110308&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Also Detroit needed this trade, they just cant get it done anymore as a unit where anyone can have the big night, they needed a go to scorer who can add 20 ppg a night consisently which should open up more chances for players like Hamilton. We needed a more selfish player. The pass pass pass mentality the past couple years was not workin at all. It seemed like all 5 players on the court were afraid to take a shot when Detroit desperatly needed one, that won't happen with Iverson.
I believe it's quiet a good trade. At first when I heard of it today, my friend called me and he's like 'Guess what Iverson got traded for Billups and McDyess" and I really didn't believe him, and had to go to the NBA website. Yet this was a really smart move by both of the teams. Iverson is a shot taker, he is someone definately never scared to take shots, and someone who is confident even if he missed some shots. Pistons needed a player like that. Added to that, I would argue that Billups' defense isn't any better then Iversons. Their quiet on the same level, both being great perimeter defenders and Iverson always averaging a hefty amount of steals per game. If Iverson doesn't fit in, then they could just let him go when his contract ends, which is quiet soon. If he does fit in and gives them what they need, they can keep him. Win - Win for the Pistons because their original team with Billups wasn't working very well anyway. Denver might be a little bit different thought, and I'm not sure if Billups will fit in. In order for him to do so, the team will need a different mentality.

Does this mean that Dumars will make a serious push at LeBron?

if YOU were a GM, wouldnt you? your team doesnt seem to be going anywhere, wins a nice amount of games a season but doesnt have enough firepower in the off season... getting lebron wont just make you a winner but it'll bring in a huge income on mechandise alone. part of teh reason for the trade for iverson i think. trade should suit both teams though.

True, but leaving Cleveland for Detroit or New York will nopt get him a title..
The only thing it will get him will more heartache..
If he truly leaves then The Lakers and Celtics should be teams he should consider..
I would love for James to play alongside Kobe, Bynum and Pau

Nothing would make me happier than watching a team like that lose. 😛
Even though I don't hate Kobe anymore.
I dont think The Lakers or Celtics are going to have the money to sign Lebron, They would have to pull off some crazy trades to get the cap space, and the Knicks are still the Knicks. I'm not saying Detroit is going to land him either, but if teams want to make a run at him there going to start to try and puzzle it all together this year with clearing up cap space and bringing a good nucleous.
