I agree that it isn't all about chest thumping, and swaggering. But Tim Duncan's ball IQ was through the roof, and he consistently applied it in every game. He didn't do anything dramatic but you knew he didn't make the same mistake twice. So while I questioned his toughness, I can't say I questioned his abilities.
Bynum just doesn't seem to trust himself. His self-esteem is easily rattled and then he starts snowballing mistakes. Bynum seems to be scared that if he screws up he is going to get yanked off the floor, a thought that should be at the back of every NBA player's mind, but it seems to be at the front of his.
I mean I can see that he still has a ways to go. He already has more polish on his post game than Dwight Howard, though he lacks Dwight's physical gifts. He seems like he is the sort to thrive in a really good situation where he is the missing ingredient, like Shawn Marion. A team that needs some extra rebounding, scoring and size in the front court. I just don't know if he is ever going to be that franchise player.
Basically once Dwight puts it all together. (versatile post game, improved passing, better foot-movment on D in the post against taller guys) he will be absolutely frightening. I mean Shaq combined with Hakeem frightening.
