You realize they take record into consideration, right? They pretty much never give the MVP to somebody on a team that is not at least the 4th best record. That is unless you think Lakers will be one of the top teams this season even after their 5-7 start.
I know, I thought about it as I made my pick, I really don't know who else should get it who's on a winning team.
Should Duncan get it? No way, this years Spurs team is far too good for him to get MVP.
Should Shaq get it? Again the Heat are too good this year and in case no one has noticed they're winning without him.
So who should get it?
Well, if the Lakers do finish at the top then definitely Kobe should get it.
If the T-Wolves finish high up there then I think KG should definitely get it.
How about Dirk with Dallas? I predict them to finish second in the West overall.
How about Ron Artest? I predict that the Pacers will win the East this year with him back.
The team's winning record does play a big factor in the decision but remember more importantly it has to be a team that really needs that player or else they lose without him. It also has to do a lot with dominating key stats. Case in point the Bulls, the reason why Jordan won MVP so many times, wasn't just because he dominated almost every statistical category but also because he was on a team that with the exception of Pippen, was just average. Take Jordan off the team and they're no longer a good team.
I dunno who do you guys think should be MVP? 😕
My All Star picks:
West:
Forwards:
Nowitzki & Garnett
Guards:
Kobe & Ray Allen
Center:
Camby (I was gonna vote for Ming but I'd figure he'd get a billion votes from China, besides the Cambyman's been doin a good job.)
East:
Forwards:
Lebron & Ron Artest(most likely Jermaine Oneal but what the heck wanted to vote for him anyway.)
Gaurds:
Wade & Carter
Center:
Big Ben
Finally the Lakers put together a balanced team victory against the Bucks. Kobe played the way i always want him to, 33pts on 14-24 shooting with 6 dimes. I cant understand why he cant play that way all the time, he draws so much attention that he could create so many easy scores if he'd just give it up. Odom had a near triple double again, he always seems to look for others but tonight he was aggressive with his own offence. Smush with 7 steals to, i love this guys game! He sometimes gives up easy penetration because he gambles so much but tonight it paid off.
If we beat the Raptors tonight we'll have our first 3 game win streak going, its by no means a given though as inconsistency is our biggest problem.
How are you guys liking your teams progress this season?
Its hard to watch your team struggle after being at the top or close to it. I feel your pain Dr, the Kings are a shadow of their glory years like the Lakers. Im trying to be patient with my team and hopefully they can at least play some good team ball this year (with Kobe getting 9 dimes last game anything is possible).

What about the Blazers? It still doesn't seem so long ago that we had a 20 year playoff streak (these last couple years are the only times I've never seen them in the playoffs in my life), getting minutes away from the finals, and now NBA.com's power ranking has them at #29 below the Raptors. ❌
Camby is having an All Star season no doubt, he is probably the best shot blocking center in the league. Elton Brand has been another revelation, he is playing like a man possessed.
My All star candidates at the moment would be:
West
Center - Camby/Gasol
PF - Brand/Duncan/Dirk
SF - KG/Marion/Maggette
SG - Kobe/Ginobli/T-Mac(if healthy)
PG - Nash/Parker(Tony not Smush)/Baron/Cassell
East
Center - Wallace/Mourning(Snaq will get it because of his popularity)
PF - J.O'Neal/Howard/Sheed
SF - LeBron/VC/Prince
SG - Redd/Rip/AI
PG - Kidd/Wade/Billups
It'll be interesting to see if all the surprising candidates are still playing well at the All Star break.
Two interesting stories from the NBA right now are Stan Van Gundy stepping down as the Heat coach and Ron Artest demanding to be traded.
I cant say im surprised that Van Gundy is gone, there was alot of pressure for the Heat to dominate with all their talent and even with Snaq out they were still under performing. Pat Riley will not tolerate any crap from the stars (even Snaq) and if he cant get this team to gel then nobody can.
As for Ron Artest, he is a tool. He has come out publicly and said he would like to be traded because he doesnt get the ball enough, before even discussing it with the Pacers management. After the way they stuck by him through the "brawl" last year this is a pretty low move by Artest. It destroys the team chemistry and puts him at odds with his teammates, the Pacers have had a very strong camaraderie running through their team with all the adversity they've had to face and this will be the second year in a row that Artest has been a major distraction for the Pacers.
What are your thoughts guys?
That definitely seems to be one of the trade scenarios. No question Artest is a fantastic player but it seems to come at the cost of the rest of the teams harmony if he decides to act up. The Kings do need a hard nosed defensive player like Artest though so i can see why you would be keen Dr, Peja is a matador on D.
at least artest has admitted hes been a nig distraction... and its one of the reasons he wants to go. but, so be it. hes on a small contract so it'll be difficult to find a decent player on a similar wage. peja m ay be a good addition to the pacers, imagine jermaine dishing it outside to an open peja. the kings with artest seems promising too... we shall see wat happens
Just because he's admitted he is a distraction that doesnt excuse the way he has gone about demanding a trade. The Pacers have stuck by him the whole way where alot of teams would have thrown him to the dogs. He should have gone to Bird and Walsh first instead of talking to the media, that just creates too many problems on the team, O'Neal has already said that its effected the team.
