Days like today are why I have a hard time seeing Billups as MVP.
Billups goes 2 for 10 for 10 points and has a turn-over for ever assist (6 each). Yet, the team easily survived without him playing well and its not because anybody really "stepped it up."
Rasheed scored 24, Hamilton had 20, Prince had 19, and Big Ben had 14 and 13. Those numbers aren't out of the norm for any of those guys. This is a perfect example of how its a team effort.
Kobe on the other hand is the most important guy on his team by far. I've always viewed MVP as the person that if removed from the team would make the team fall apart the most. That man this season is Kobe, not Billups.
toronto versus kings was a great game... jalen rose, even though hes been quoted as saying he wants to leave, aint doing a vince and is still playing hard, nailing the winner last night against scato. i hope we can keep hold of jalen... or get some needed muslce for him. hopefully new gm wayne embry will do us well.

you make a valid point which i shall ignore 🙂
i dont think anyones makign a solid case for mvp so far... possibly only lebron and iverson so far.... carmelos had a good season, but its not mvp worthy. garnett is as good as always, but his team aint winning enough. same with kobe. dirk maybe? possibly elton brand... but the clips will have to win like when the season started for that to happen. love to see bosh get it tho😄

wow the hate runs deep...
lol @ ai... my LA got a better record than them fools. so why you got ai as your canditate and not ko8e?
I wouldn't say its hate Point, just different opinions.
Up until the Lakers last game against the Pistons i was undecided who i would give my vote for MVP to. But its now clear to me that if the criteria is who is most valuable to their team it has to be #8. The rest of the Lakers (except Mihm) really showed their lack of balls and played like a bunch of scared sissy boys, only Kobe and Mihm manned up and played hard even though it was obvious the Pistons were going to win.
Kobe is surrounded by CBA scrubs and NBA rejects yet we still have a winning record and can make the playoffs if we keep it up. Odumb has enough talent to be an All Star but he seems so mentally weak that he cant pull himself out of a bad spell and has been lost since his meltdown in Sacramento. I realise the Lakers are rebuilding and they are not going to contend for a few years and im ok with that, all i ever ask is that the team out on the floor gives 100% every game. So far Kobe is the only one doing that, without him we would have the worst record in the league (yes even worse that Atlanta).

LeBron - Team needs to win more as mentioned or he needs to play more ridiculous like Kobe is. LeBron has a better team than Kobe but Kobe has to carry his team more than LeBron does and they are still about equal in record. And trust me, I say this with LeBron being my favorite in the NBA and Kobe being damn close to my least.
Iverson - Kind of the same boat LeBron's in. Although I think Iverson has a better team overall. Imagine James with a shooter like Korver.
Carmelo - I can't believe he was even mentioned in that paragraph.
Garnett - Team definitely not doing good enough plus he's averaging less in every major statistical category than he did his MVP year.
Dirk - I can see that. He's obviously the leader on his team and his team is doing very well.
Brand - If the Clips pick up the pace again, I can see that too, but it would surprise me if they do. Other than that he is MVP worthy.

Thats one of the things that has impressed me about Kobe this year, in all the hoops forums i read even people who cant stand him personally are giving him respect for his game. He has made mistakes in the past and (Laker) fans like myself have stuck with him while he was being trashed. Now even those who trashed him in the past cant deny that he is playing at a level that we very rarely see. That may sound a bit dramatic but look at what he has to work with on a nightly basis, Odom may fill the box score but he is as soft as a kitten. Kwame could be an elite PF in this league but he has no touch around the basket to match his physical gifts, that coupled with his hands of stone and he is looking pretty average right now. Smush has been a backup PG all his career and is finding out that consistency is the key in the NBA. Mihm is the only Laker who has shown improvement and a Kobe like work ethic. The ONLY reason the Lakers are where they are is because of #8, you have to respect that like him or not.

LeBron turned down the dunk contest but will participate in the Skills Challenge.
damn...
why does dude keep on dodging the dunk contest. somebody tell the kid that everybody worth a page in the book of records, went thru the dunk contest (dr.j,mike, nique, spud,vc,kob'😉
lol, bron is shook.
oh btw..
knicks got owned by the hawks. THE HAWKS?!?!
Wow. The Knicks are horrible.
Bron will struggle in the skills challenge, dont you have to hit a set shot?
Seriously though, Bron would be great in the dunk contest. The dude has crazy hops and big enough hands to do some sick moves in the air. It would also be good for his image, its like a rite of passage for elite SG's.
Nate Robinson should be fun to watch, i remember Isiah saying he couldnt believe how easily he could jam at his height. Glad we dont have to endure "The Birdman" making a cock of himself, even if it was funny to watch. Who else is signed up? I wanna see my boy Von Wafer in there, its not like his gonna get much playing time this year anyway he may as well get some recognition for something.
Josh Smith will defend his title, Nash will defend his, and Q. Rich will defend his.
I think its smart of LeBron not to do the dunk contest (although I too am disappointed). Everybody knows LeBron can jam, but I don't think he is as good at dunking as everybody thinks. He would be expected to win yet I personally think Josh Smith would be the favorite in my mind to repeat. If LeBron doesn't win, everybody will be disappointed. However, LeBron could prove himself more by winning the skills challenge than the dunk contest. Its not as fun to watch, but he would get more respect if he won that than if he wins the dunk contest.
Originally posted by MythThe only real MVP candidates at this point are Kobe, LeBron and Nash. I think every sports writer would agree with me. Kobe is averaging 35.9 ppg and they're going to make the playoffs. Lebron is averaging over 30 ppg, 6 rpg and 6 apg and can possibly win 50 games. And Nash is averaing 19 ppg almost 12 apg, on his alwyas brilliant nearly 50%fg, over 40% 3pt and over 90% ft, he's having an even better year than last year and carrying the team with Amare, even though they have 3 new starters into the lineup.
😆 Thats cool. I'm just throwing out my perception and your welcome to to believe however you want.
