Interesting. Now that I think about it, there are millions of farmers and their dependents in this country, and most of them are white, and none of them are riding around in lambourghini's. Or a pick-up truck with more than 3 tires, either.

In my time, I don't ever recall seeing a sign anywhere in the US that said "DONT BE HERE AT NIGHT WHITEY!"

Yep, those signs are all over the place here in NC. In cow pastures, on stop lights, in truck stop diners, and especially under the covers. Oops, I forgot to put my sign on the back of my car when I got to work this morning. Just don't follow my car after dark.

ok, and if i wander around in passaic, jersey city, or newark at 3 in the morning ill probably be jumped by a gang because i'm white. but no, nobody bothered putting up any signs.
what does that have to do with the social and economic structure as per ethnicity? all you're basically saying is that there are racist assholes in NC. i agree. there are groups of people who hate others just because of who they are, whether it be the new black panthers or white neocon christians.
im not trying to say that racism isnt a problem, what i am saying is that racism has nothing to do with privilege in any area of the u.s. that is even a bit past the dark ages.

That's true, the sign was there when I was a kid. It hasn't been since the late 80s though. But the difference in that sign is the group who supported it being there. The KKK hated blacks, hispanics, jews, catholics, gays...basically anything that wasn't them. The people in that same town refused to shop at my father's store because he was a catholic from manhattan...and he was pretty damned white.
One of the things I've never understood about teh Klan is that they have so much hate that they end up dividing their own race based on religion or orientation or even geography....why can't they do the same with other races. You know, like some blacks are okay as long as they're doctors and southern baptists.
