A Manager has to hire a new employee. There are two applicants. One is white who has a college degree and years of work experience.

The other is black and hardly finished high school and has little to no work experience.

Affirmitive Action requires the Manager to hire the black applicant despite the fact that the white applicant is more fit for the job.

Honestly, I have met some poor african-americans before.

Not the ones who live off welfare or sell drugs, I mean hard working people.

They are very nice. Its a shame that these kinds of people are usually overlapped by the criminals, racists and wackos. 🙁

If they are of equal qualifications, I think this is a good thing.

Look at corporate boardrooms all over America. Old white men. That's because of history. Old money. Money (if traced back far enough) that will undoubtedly link to slave trade or plantations.

If the two applicants are of the same qualifications, why not automatically give the job to the person of color?

To each thier own. They dont have to be of equal qualifications. Ive heard it staight from the horses mouth. If you think every board room is full of old white men you are badly mistaken. Why should someone pay for the sins of thier great,great,great,great grandfathers??? Even if then? Im sure some money could possibly be linked but what does that have to do with hireing practices of today? I mean come on, I can trace my family back to scotland and england. None of my family held slaves. Why should I be punished because someone else did?

Maybe not every board room, but if you go up high enough, most of the time you'll find a couple of old white dudes.

Looking at history, I personally don't have that much trust.

Is affirmative action unfair? Yes.... So was slavery, segregation, Jim Crowe, the taking of America by Europeans, the kidnapping of Africans, ect. ect.

That still doesn't justify me being punished when I have done nothing wrong. I agree all of what you said was wrong. As was the subjugation of Scotland by the English, ect,ect. Its done and over with and no-one of this or any close generations had anything to do with any of these things. My great grandmother was a Shawnee. She was done dirty to. Hanging on to all the hate that exists over these atrocities does no good.I say learn from the mistakes and make sure they never happen again.

I'm sure the millions of people in ghettos say the exact same thing. Except, not just at job interviews. And like I said, I don't trust the higher ups enough to learn from their mistakes. So when something like affirmative action slips through the cracks, I hold on to it.

Do you want to know the truth? Honest-to-god statistics you can look up for yourself? A black or latino man is more likely to commit a crime than a white man. Why is that? Because generally blacks and latinos are in a lower economic class than whites are. This is not a racist situation, it's one of class that was transferred OVER to race. Blacks are more likely to attack a white man than a white man is to attack a black man. More blacks get attacked by whites, this is true, but the percentage of blacks who attacks whites is much, much larger.

Whites often have to deal with idiocy such as this thread, where we're assumed to be priveleged and well off just because we're white. In the military, I come across a lot of people from different backgrounds, including those who think that reparations should be paid to them by white people because of slavery. I'm told that I'm responisible for all that is wrong with the world because I'm white. I'm told of white oppression of native americans, of blacks, of asians, and the list goes on.

If you want the truth about Affirmitive Action, then here it is: It's just another racist law on the books. It's looking at whites as a whole and blacks as a whole and saying "How can we make them equal?" And this is a very, very racist thing to do - it's just a more subtle type of racism. What we should be focusing on is how to lift those in the lower classes out of it and get them into college, not just specifically blacks. There are more poor white people than there are black people period. Life is not a competition between races. It's a competition between individuals. You are not Black Man Joshua or White Man Eric. You're Joshua. I'm Eric. I don't play for the white team. I don't get a good job and go "Yes! Another one for whitey!" I'm my own person. The white race can go to hell. The black race can go to hell. Be your own person. Don't be your skin color.

In truth, I'm just a guy. I don't give a crap about my color, and I don't give a crap about yours, either. If people would stop making such a big deal about it then maybe we could move the hell on with our lives.
