I couldn’t believe this when I saw it on the news this morning, an art teacher fired for bringing her students to an art museum and they saw some nudes? Give me a fricking break, it’s an art museum and not some little rinky dink one but the Dallas Art Museum for crying out loud.

It should have been violence, no one would have minded that way. Nudity is worse because the human body is bad.

Give it back to Mexico.

"Geez, Mexico...We're really sorry we annexed your territory.

No, you cannot have California back."

I don't think Mexico would take it back now....

Of course they would. It would make it that much easier to sneak in to the US.

No nearby fault lines...

'course California will be underwater before too long. Then the balance will be lost. With no far left to balance the far right the earth will spin out of balance and eventually be destroyed. Same would go if the far right were removed.

The problem is that one parent got a good teacher fired, she has been teaching for 28 years and just one complaint gets her fired. Her recorded before this was excellent from what I have read. It’s not that one person complained but that an entire panel of people that makes the decisions over reacted and that they parent already knew that they kid was going to the museum and signed a permission slip to allow their kid to go there.

Wow, who would've thunk it? Her kid was actually going to be exposed to some degree of nudity in an art museum?

Kinda gives you an idea of how intelligent and cultured some people still are these days. Sometimes I feel as though we're going backwards instead of forwards. Progress? huh...yeah...

Not to mention the fact that, I still can't make my way through some parts of the South without hearing some dude comment on 'how pretty my mouth is.'

This just about killed the rest of it.

Cheer up Lana, all the other kids got to see the nudity.

They'll still get to be curious about sex and think about doing it sooner.

Plus, we'll be giving them education about how to do it, and condoms at the end of the session for try-at-home fun!

Then if they should happen to get pregnant, we can just abort the baby!

For free!

Without the parents ever knowing!

^^^the fact that you think that's a fine and dandy approach to life is what corrodes my hope for humanity.

So, just out of curiosity, is there any evidence that children seeing nude art is linked to an increase in teen pregnancy?

isnt it cute how SS pulls fun facts from his rectum?

At least I am not deluded into thinking that only teaching abstinence in sex-ed actually keeps kids from having sex, when it fact it does nothing but make sure that they have no idea how to use protection and THEN get pregnant.

At the age of 11 I saw a nice pair of boobs in a Playboy and it got me to thinking.

I know that when I see a picture of a naked woman, I think about sex.

Don't you?

I assume that most girls experience the same thing if they see male nudity.

Not lust or anything, but a curiousity about how sex works.

Thinking about sex, indeed having a love of "the naked human body" as you all seem to think would benefit a child, will only lead to them wanting sex as teens, and being open to it.

(since you all seem to think that 16 year olds f*cking each other with wild abandon is a great and beautiful thing, I won't even touch the abstinece issue)

Teen sex invariably equals teen pregnancy, which more often than not, equals teen abortions.

You won't find any scientific studies on the matter, but its common sense.

If I'm wrong, what effect do you think that seeing nudity has on a child, now and later?

Seeing a nude in Playboy and seeing the nudes in a museum are to different things. Playboy is made to make you think of eroticism why most nudes in art are about the human form. Each person will look at it different depending on their maturity, environment or culture.

It was a straight forward picture of a woman who was topless.

Just a portrait really, no posing or nasty face. She looked happy, I guess.

Since a child has little to no concept of eroticism anyway, I fail to see the difference.

Nudity is nudity.

What effect do you think nudity has on kids, Pittman?

(wasn't sure if the question was answered or not)

Is that why Teen pregnancy is a lot worse in the US then it is in for instance ohh I don't know all of Western Europe?

Ignoring a problem won't make it go away. People will always be interested in sex, giving no education about it and firing great teachers because of a statue in a museum really won't make children ignore sex and just stay a virgin until their 18 or something like that.

yes, and when i see a hot girl, i think about doing her. should she be locked away out of view of any children? anyway, you're trying to imply that all nudity in art is sexual/erotic and you are flat wrong.

have you ever whacked off over a picasso?

which is a sin right? its a sin for a kid to know what human reproduction is.

yes, we all think its beautiful for kids to ****. great decuction from your house of cards which is your argument. assumption piled on assumption piled on assumption.
since you cant form a decent point, you have to continue playing straw man amongst your little tantrum.

no its not. you just made it up. and called it fact....like a good wingnut

Again, what are your thoughts then on the effect of children seeing nudity?

Personally, I don't think it has any effect beyond expelling this false taboo people seem to think exists about the human body.

I love art, and I spent a ton of time in art museums as a child. Thus, I did see many paintings and statues that had nudes, and the only effect it had on me? I'd be the only one in my class on field trips not giggling hysterically because OMG BOOBIES.

Certainly did not make me start thinking about sex when I was young, though.

Hiding and/or making taboo things that are natural does nothing to help, and only causes harm.

Oh and just for hell of it, not that I think it will do any good for you.

Teen birth, teen abortion, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates in the United States are higher than in most other industrialized countries. In 1999, 48 out of 1,000 U.S. women ages 15-19 gave birth—a rate 11 times greater than in the Netherlands and four times higher than in Germany. The teen abortion rate in the U.S. is more than three times that of France and nearly seven times that of the Netherlands.

Many factors influence the differences in teen sexual health between the U.S. and these industrialized nations: affordable family planning services; sustained, realistic media campaigns; public health policy grounded in pragmatism and research; and sexuality information characterized by open, honest dialogue. Philosophically, many European countries accept that adolescents, especially older ones, are going to be sexually active. Therefore, policies and programs focus on protective behaviors and skills. In the United States, policies, programs, and national initiatives focus on delaying sexual initiation as long as possible.

So 7x times more abortians and still 11x times more teenage moms...

And that all because you don't show anything... It's clearly a very effective way to deal with this problem. Go America

It depends on a lot of things but there is no black and white. However repressing information about it or over exposing is also bad as well; it is a balance of knowledge and information. Some children are much more mature and including their parents who teach them as well. Repressing the knowledge can lead to many problems like low self-esteem or a compulsion for sex.

Lack of knowledge is worse and leads to many of the problems that we face today. Its much like knowing your car, if you know how it works and what you are supposed to do with it you can avoid problems, but if you don’t then things will break and you don’t know what to do.
